So I’m a big proponent of getting a great workout at home without having to spend a fortune or, more importantly, leave the house to go to the gym! The key to at home workouts is ensuring that you have enough intensity to offer you a real challenge. Like they say, no pain no gain.* So I am constantly on the lookout for tough at-home workouts. One of my favorites is Jillian Michael’s videos. This week, I’ll be giving you the run down on Jillian’s 6 Week Six Pack video!
The workout has two levels. Level 1 is slightly easier, while Level 2 offers more advanced options. Let me give it to you straight-they are BOTH HARD! Each level is about 30 minutes long plus warm-up so about 35 minutes total. This is perfect for when you are in a rush and need a quick fix or if you want to combine it with another workout, for example, some cardio.
(Don’t mind my somewhat cluttered apartment-hey NYC is expensive and we don’t have that much space!)
A real plus with this workout is that is requires very little equipment! You need one handweight. Here I am using a 5lb weight but if you are a beginner I would recommend a 3lb or if you are more advanced go for an 8lb. Besides the weight and a mat to keep you comfortable for the floor exercises you need no other equipment. So not only is this workout convenient (this photo was taken about 10 minutes after I woke up), it does not require a lot of extras.
Beginners and advanced alike will love this workout. For both Level 1 and Level 2 Jillian offers easier and harder options so you can increase or decrease the difficulty to meet your fitness level. She absolutely keeps things moving so you don’t get bored. However, the thing I love most about this workout is that Jillian totally gets that you can’t spot reduce fat (she says that ALL THE TIME!) so she includes cardio bursts with traditional abdominal toning exercises. You will burn calories and you will sweat in this workout. You will also really tone those abs and core (don’t forget-you need a strong back to support strong abs).
The only con I have about this video is the music. The background music is not that great. This seems to be a problem with most home workout videos (it is most likely due to licensing and copyright laws). BUT even with so-so music, the workout is amazing. You will totally get a six pack if you stick with this workout for six weeks. It is FitBritt tested and approved!
Oh I almost forgot the best part, its less than $9 on Amazon! I mean $9 for 35 minutes without leaving the house, I don’t want to hear ANY excuses!!! It doesn’t get easier to get fit than this!
