So it has been awhile since I’ve completed anything on my 30 Under 30 list and with only about 4 months to go I need to get going on my goals before entering the third decade of my life and arguably my most “grown-up” decade! Well, it is official, I am entering the next decade of my life as a grown-up with “real furniture.” That’s right, Number 28, buy one piece of real furniture!
I’ll give you a little background info. Pete and I moved into our current apartment in 2009 just before I entered my third and final year of law school. Prior to this apartment Pete and I had lived with roommates and we had never really been required to buy new furniture. Once we moved out on our own, we realized that we were going to have to do better than an overturned crate in the living room 😉 The only problem was that we didn’t want to spend a fortune furnishing our small apartment that we don’t even own! The solution? Hand-me-down couch from my parents!
(That’s the couch in the background!)
Don’t get me wrong, Pete and I were grateful for the couch. It was the couch from my childhood and it is expensive Italian leather. But …its dusty rose pink and does not really fit with the modern vibe Pete and I were striving with in our apartment.
I’ve wanted to buy a new couch for awhile now. At first Pete resisted (what if we bought an apartment and our couch didn’t fit/didn’t match our decor). But eventually I convinced him and then last week, drumroll please . . ., we finally took the plunge and bought a new couch!
YAY! Welcome to adulthood. We went furniture shopping and selected a couch that fit our style. I felt so grown up-married & furniture shopping. Definitely a big change from 28 years old! So looks like I’ll be entering my 30s as a true grown-up with my own store bought nice couch. The best part of this purchase was that the couch was NOT from Ikea or Target. Huge step-up for us! Go Bendalls!
