Thirty Under Thirty Update-Host a Fancy Dinner Party

With only a few more months to go, I’m working on ticking off my 30 Under 30 list! Well, last night I was able to tick off one more!  Pete and I hosted a “fancy dinner party” for 10 of our closest friends last night!  We literally spent all day prepping for the party-everything from cleaning to pre-cutting veggies to setting the table.  And it went off without a hitch (almost)!

We broke out our wedding china (and our wedding glasses and wedding silverware and wedding serving dishes . . .)

On the menu:  Appetizers of triple creme brie, aged gouda, french bread, rosemary crackers, butternut squash and roasted pecan puffs, crostini with onion-rosemary marmalade and goat cheese, grapes, prosciutto and some rose bubbles!

The main meal was a fall salad of arugula, spinach, pumpkin seeds, craisins and raosted butternut squash topped with a burgundy poppyseed dressing we bought on our bike and wine tour of Long Island. We served up some beef tenderloin roasted with some red wine accompanied by roasted cherry tomatoes and shallots along with couscous, sauteed mushrooms and broccolini with homemade lemon bread crumbs.

So the reason the dinner went off *almost* without a hitch was that some of the oil and honey I used to roast the butternut squash for the salad spilled onto the bottom of the oven causing a major smoke attack in our apartment! Oh man!  Luckily we got it under control and were able to finish cooking the dinner!  It turned out great and we even had some treats from Pip’s Place for dessert.

This one is definitely being filed under indulgences! 🙂

Readers, what did you do this weekend? Do you have any dinner party mishaps?
