Hey everyone! So all of a sudden it has gotten really really cold outside! When I left work this evening it was down to 39 degrees! Brrrrrrr! Anywho, this got me thinking-how do you stay healthy during the cold winter months?
First of all, it does without saying that you need to exercise!
Exercise is vital to a healthy body and helps boost your immune system. Not to mention the other benefits of exercise will help keep your body strong.
Hand and hand with exercising is, of course, eating right.
Foods like fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins provide the body with nutrients that can help ward off colds and the flu.
Of course this exercising and healthy eating is not as effective unless you get enough zzzzzzs!
Seven to eight hours of sleep a night is necessary to help your body recoup and recover and ward off viruses.
In addition to the basics, I arm myself with a little bit extra defense. First of all, I get a yearly flu shot (I haven’t yet gotten mine this year but plan to soon-yikes!). I also take a daily supplement of vitamin D. Studies show that vitamin D promotes immune health. Give it a try and let me know how you fare with the flu this season.
