Sunday Slow Cooker- Spaghetti Bolognese

So I realize today is MONDAY not SUNDAY!  I’m a little late on my Sunday Slow Cooker.  Well, see it all started when I couldn’t get an early enough delivery time for my groceries on Sunday so I had to plan to go the grocery store on Sunday instead of getting them delivered.  Not a big deal, except that I kind of didn’t make it to the grocery store in time to actually make the recipe…ooops!  And so, I have for you Sunday Slow Cooker on Monday my friends!  You gotta try this Spag Bol-it is so good and so easy!  The good part about doing Sunday Slow Cooker on Monday is that I came home from work tonight to delicious smells wafting from kitchen.  All I had to do was boil some water to make some pasta.  Amazing!  Check it out:

Spaghetti Bolognese

Serves 4

(adapted from Cooking Light)


1 yellow onion, chopped

1 celery stalk, chopped

1 carrot, chopped

4 large garlic cloves, chopped

1 lb lean ground sirloin

1 lb lean ground turkey

1 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes

1 cup red cooking wine

1 cup low sodium beef broth

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Black pepper and salt to season

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Dried spaghetti


1.)  Saute onion, carrot, celery and garlic for 4 minutes (either do this in your slow cooker if you have a saute function or do it in a saute pan if your slow cooker does not have a saute function).  Add meats and cook for another 5 minutes.

2.)  Add remaining ingredients to slow cooker and cook for 8 hours on LOW.

3.)  Cook pasta according to package directions.  Serve bolognese sauce over pasta.
