It is literally DAYS away from my bday month which can mean only one thing…I’m in a total panic to get my 30 Under 30 done! Ahhhh! Well, luckily when I was in Napa Valley, I took care of number 16 on my list-buy a bottle of wine to age (Pete, if you are reading this STOP NOW OR ELSE!!!!!!!!).
I believe I mentioned we visited Clos Du Val when we were in Napa, which was really cool because we served their cab sauv at our wedding.
Well, I couldn’t help but think that while I was there, I should get a little something. So when Pete wasn’t looking (and I’m serious, if you are reading STOP!), I purchased a bottle of Clos du Val’s 2008 Reserve Cab Sauv. I’m so excited!!!
Now, I know I told you the plan was to age it and that’s still the plan . . .sorta. See, while I was in Napa, I made a point of asking about aging wine at all of the cellars. While it can be done, and in fact is done all the time, the issue is our apartment. It rarely dips below 70 degrees in here, even in the winter! We are literally nestled in between floor after floor of heated apartments so it is still shorts weather in here even in the winter. And let’s not even talk about the summer. So the concern is that a bottle of wine left in our apartment would probably not age very well. Alas, we will have to drink this bottle of wine sooner than I thought. But not to worry, I’ve got a plan. Its going to be a surprise for Pete on our 1st Anniversary! So that counts for some aging, right?! I think we’ll love it! 🙂
Readers, have you aged wine? Have any tips? I’d also love to buy a 2012 vintage to keep because its the year we were married.
