The chat was really interesting and fun and it inspired me to write a little review of Diet-to-Go. I used Diet-to-Go last year before my wedding for about 5 weeks. It was a lifesaver. I was so busy with the final weeks of planning plus working full time as a lawyer (which means working ALL THE TIME!) and trying to spend a little extra time prepping myself for the big day (you know hair, nails, exercise, etc). So, as you can imagine, eating healthy was necessary but really difficult to fit in with my schedule.
My solution was a diet delivery program. I did some research on a bunch of different diet delivery companies and decided I wanted a company that provided me with good tasting, fresh food that wouldn’t break my budget. After looking at all my options, I settled on Diet-to-Go.
I chose the 5 day a week plan, 3 meals a day. It cost me about $100 per week, which was pretty reasonable. I went with the Traditional plan but there are actually three choices to satisfy your diet needs: Traditional, Vegetarian and Low-Carb. Each plan has an option of either 1200 calories or 1600 calories. I chose the 1200 calorie plan, which Diet-to-Go recommends for women. Because I was working out a lot, burning a ton of calories and did not have a significant amount of weight to lose, I supplemented my meals when necessary with snacks-usually fruit, nuts or pretzels with hummus. If you are looking to save a bit of money or you can easily arrange your own breakfasts, Diet-to-Go offers lunch and dinner only options, which is also a great choice.
The meals are delivered on a weekly basis by UPS or FedEx and everything comes in an insulated, refrigerated box.* You simply unload your meals, put ’em in the fridge and break ’em out when you are ready to eat. Almost all meals need to be heated in the microwave although some portions of meals are non-microwavable (like apples, oranges, condiments, juice, etc). The meals are complete with accompaniments so you literally don’t have to worry about a thing. All meals can be frozen so if you get off schedule and are unable to finish your meals for the week, just pop them in the freezer for later.
Another great feature is that you can download and print the weekly menus so you know what’s coming up. You have the option to substitute meals if there is something on the menu for the upcoming week that you don’t like or can’t eat. I loved this feature because there were some dishes that were not my favorite and I gladly substituted them for other meals.
So my overall thoughts? The delivery service was great. I didn’t have to plan or cook meals for the weeks prior to my wedding. Everything has healthy, fresh and well-prepared. It was beyond easy and the delivery worked out so well. The food tasted good and I didn’t feel like I was starving. I did begin to miss fresh foods like salads so if I did this service again I would probably look to add in a few fresh meals like lunch salads or something to mix it up. I highly recommend Diet-to-Go if you are a stressed out bride, a busy working professional or anyone else who needs a bit of a boost. You can stop and start the service at any time so it totally works on your schedule. I think if you need to lose weight, this is a good option for you. Just remember that it is usually not a long-term fix since we can’t have our meals delivered indefinitely, or can we . . .?
