Hello everyone! Hope you had a wonderful long weekend! Thank you so much for allowing me to take some time off to check off Number 30 on my 30 Under 30 list– Turn 30 In Style! And in style I was! I think I mentioned that the hubs has been shipped off to Mexico for six (!) weeks for work. It’s a real bummer and I haven’t seen him in nearly three weeks (yes I spent Valentine’s Day alone watching NBC). But on Friday evening I came home from work to find Pete awaiting my arrival! Yay!!! I was excited to kick off a long birthday weekend.
I had no idea what we would be doing but I settled in for some Friday night Thai food from my favorite restaurant that Pete had ordered and a noticeable stack of wrapped presents next to the coffee table. Before I had a chance to ask sowhatarewedoing?, Pete told me that I had one thing left to do that evening…. PACK!!! And pack I did because in less than 24 hours, this was my new view! 🙂
Ahhhhhh…. Pete organized an awesome trip to the Florida Keys to kick off the next decade of my life! I was off-the-wall excited!
I’ll give you the complete run down of all the awesome adventures we managed to pack into just three days but let me convince you that I did in fact turn the big 3-0 in style first!
My actual birthday ended up being a bit breezy and cool for the Keys so after a breakfast of Belgian waffles with tropical salsa, Pete and I decided to head south to the southernmost point in the U.S. (a.k.a Key West). The drive was long but unbelievably picturesque and when we got there it was worth every second of the drive. Check out these amazing photos!
The turquoise color of that water fading into aquamarine complimented by the cool blue of the sky practically has me drooling right now. The sand was so warm and soft and the water was nice and warm-not at all like the Atlantic that I’m used to! We decided to grab a bite to eat and lounge around for a bit before heading back to Key Largo for my next appointment!
Being the awesome husband that he is, Pete had booked me a surprise massage to ease away all the travel tension in my weary muscles. All I can say is that when you get a massage, this should be your view 100% of the time!
Just as I was about to float away on a turquoise cloud of stress-free heaven, the hubs reappeared with this:
Happy Birthday to me!
We headed down to the beach to watch the famed Keys sunset and sip the Moet.
Of course the night was still young and the hubs had one more surprise up his sleeve! A swanky dinner at Pierre’s– Key Largo’s best restaurant (and did you know that Pierre is French for Pete?).
The before dinner shot!
We dined on key lime pickled shrimp, duck foie gras (I think Pete died a little bit over this one), delicious fish and a decadent creme brulee and chocolate something that probably is spelled h.e.a.v.e.n. Even the fish was cooked to my exact preference with dried apricot and pistachio basmati rice and coconut orange curry cream. Holy moly!
I fell asleep that night swaddled with a day of happy memories, beautiful scenery and delicious food!
Now that’s what I call Turning 30 In Style! Check back tomorrow for all the info on what we did, where we stayed and what we ate!
