For my last installment of my Les Mills reviews, I am going to give you guys a little run down on one of their newest classes, CxWorx. When I originally reviewed the Les Mills fitness programs, I told you that I had not yet tried out their CxWorx class but lucky for me, I had the opportunity recently to give it a go. Here’s the info!
CxWorx is an abdominal and core class. It is only 30 minutes in length and uses mostly your own body weight and resistance tubing. The class features both traditional core strength exercises and standing strength segments that help strengthen your core but don’t focus on traditional exercises like crunches, it is more about functional training.
I have to say after about 5 minutes, my abs were killing me and I was looking at the clock thinking, um when is this over!? It’s kind of torture for your abs, in a good way of course! The pace of the class is slow enough to allow you to effectively engage and work your core. I like that it mixes standing strength with traditional exercises, mostly because the standing strength also gave me a little bit of reprieve from all the crunches, oblique crunches and hover planks you can expect to do in this class. I liked the short length of this class because you can easily throw it in with another class. For instance, I paired Zumba and CXWorx together the first time I tried it out. I also liked the singular focus on the core, an area that I constantly feel I need to work on more.
I burn about 115-120 calories per class, which is great but it is also a good reminder that in order to get great abs, you really do need to incorporate cardio into your routine, not just core strengthening exercises.
