Cardio Dance at 305 Fitness

Let me ask you a question, do you like to have FUN? If so, keep reading!  You’re going to love this review.

Recently I had the opportunity to try out 305 Fitness through my partnership with FiTMAPPED.*  I had been hearing so much buzz about 305 so I was really excited to try it out.  305 Fitness is a dance-based cardio class created by Sadie Kurzban while at Brown University.  She developed a large following at Brown and after graduation she headed to the Big Apple to set up shop.  Although she’s a newcomer to the NYC fitness scene, Sadie’s anything but inexperienced when it comes to providing quality fitness classes.  Her motto is “Make Sweat Sexy” and let me tell you, at 305 they do just that!

Classes are held in Chelsea (right around the corner from my old apartment!  Drats I don’t live there anymore!).  When you walk into the studio, the lights are dimmed like you are stepping into a nightclub.  305 Fitness, which gets it’s name from Miami’s area code, wants to bring the heat and sexiness of a Miami nightclub to your workout on 6th Avenue.  Adding to the sense of ambience is your own personal DJ for the class.  This was honestly one of the coolest features of 305 Fitness, IMO.  You know that feeling you get when a really great song comes on the radio when you’re in the car and you turn up the volume?  Yeah, it’s like that only amplified.

While the DJ spun top 40 hits, we sweated it out on the dance floor.  Right from the start Sadie gets you moving with her easy to follow choreography, which includes some traditional aerobic moves like graveines and jumping jacks, some Latin inspired choreo like mambos and some hip hop based moves.  The class is non-stop, giving you a great cardio workout.  About 20 minutes into the class my heart was pounding like I was in a spin class!  In an hour long class I burned a whopping 600 calories.

 

Sadie’s energy is what keeps you moving.  Although she said she was sick the night I was there, her “sick” is me on my best day!  She’s so high energy, encouraging her participants to push themselves a little bit harder and lose themselves in the music a little bit more.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a prima ballerina or you’ve never danced before, this class is for everyone.  Like I said, if you like to have fun, you’re going to love this class!

 

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get to 305 Fitness but I’ll definitely be back.  Classes are $24 each but newcomers can get 3 weeks unlimited for only $30.

    Never heard of 305 Fitness, but it sounds awesome! I’m currently going to Zumba, so this sounds like something that would right up my alley. I love dance aerobics classes…you sweat like crazy, your heart rate is up and I don’t even feel like I’m working out because I’m having so much fun!

      The creator of 305 Fitness, Sadie used to teach Zumba so you definitely see some Zumba influence in 305. I am a huge fan of dance cardio as well! Like you said, I don’t even feel like I’m working out!

    Anything that makes you sweat and your heart pound like spinning must be an intense workout!
