More Summer of Fitness Plus a New Barre Video

Hey there!  How is your week going so far?  Have you been participating in any #SummerofFitness events?  For those of you just joining, I’ve coined this summer the Summer of Fitness because I’ve been going to so many great fitness events around the city and just generally keeping myself fit!  Recently I’ve been to free classes from Body Conceptions and 305 Fitness at Hudson River Park, Yoga in Times Square and Stand Up Paddleboarding.  Last night, I hit up Zumba downtown with Skinnygirl Daily and Z ClubNY, one of my favorite Zumba studios!  The free class brought up tons of fans that wanted to shake it like a polaroid picture!  It was approximately 95 degrees out and we were dripping in sweat but the class was amazing!

Plus there were great views!

In addition to the free loot they were giving away, I also won Skinnygirl Daily’s Instagram contest giving me a three month membership to Spotify!  How exciting is that!?  I’ll let you know how I like it! ๐Ÿ™‚

This week I’m participating in FiTMAPPED’s #FiTCRAWL with Self Magazine.  The FiTCRAWL features studios around NYC each week offering discounted classes.  If you go to the classes, check in using the FiTMAPPED App or rate and review online, you can win some great prizes.  For more information, click here.  This week I’m excited to attend:

The Bari Studio– A hybrid workout of dance, cardio, trampoline and toning.  I’ll give you guys the full review soon!

Chaise23– A pilates based class using a chair.  I’m going to ballet bungee this week!

DMF– Dance cardio at it’s best!

The Bari Studio

What are you doing for your Summer of Fitness?  It can be classes, outdoor workouts, our just getting out for a game of tennis with friends.  Whatever you are doing, tweet me, Instagram me or leave a comment letting me know how this is your Summer of Fitness!  If you need a suggestion, no worries, I’ve got you covered.  I’ve got a brand new barre video available on my YouTube channel.  If you haven’t subscribed yet, go ahead and sign up!  You’ll have access to videos that I don’t post on my blog! ๐Ÿ™‚

Obviously with all these fitness activities this summer, I want to avoid suffering from dehydration or heat exhaustion.  Of course it’s important to stay hydrated and while I generally drink water during my workouts, recently I was sent some drinks by 2B to try out.*  2B was created originally to be sold by the NYC Department of Education to replace sodas in schools.  I’m a huge fan of promoting health for kids, starting by no soda at school so I was excited to try these drinks out.  They are all natural, aloe infused drinks that are 20 calories per bottle.  They use Pure Fruit, a natural sweetener.

 2B

I had a chance to try all of the different flavors: Tropical Fruit, Coconut Passion, Lemonade, Fruit Punch and Grape.  My favorites were Lemonade and Coconut Passion (I love anything coconut!).  The drinks were a great substitute for soda or juice.  I loved how they did not taste like a sugar substitute but rather more natural and more like the flavors they are advertised as tasting like.  I liked most of the flavors, although personally, the grape was a little overwhelming for me (I’m not a huge grape person anyway).  If you are craving a sweet drink this summer like a soda, juice, slushie, try a 2B.  Your waistline will thank you!

Readers, tell me what you are doing for your Summer of Fitness!  What’s your favorite way to workout during the summer?

* Please note that I was sent these drinks complimentary by 2B.  All opinions expressed herein are my own.

    Hi Brit,
Nice to catch up with you thru your Blog but being me, I feel the need to correct something. You said “to shake it like a Polaroid picture”. Having worked at Polaroid for 25 years, I can’t help but comment that the Polarid pictures should NEVER be shaken or waved around. By doing that, it could effect the chemicals in the layers of the film. Of course the real Polaroid is no long around so it’s a mute point, but it was ingrained in me during my Polaroid years. There is a group of entrepenaurs with the IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT starting to reinvent the Polaroid film so there may be some film around. I enjoy your pictures and envy your stamina.. Edyie Johnson

Hi Edyie! Thanks so much for commenting! I am so glad you like my blog! I will have to look out for the Polaroid reinvention, although these days there are apps and other things that can make your pictures look like the original Polaroid pics. The “Shake it like a Polariod picture” line is actually a pop culture reference to a song by the group called Outkast. When I was in college everyone loved to dance to that song! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yay for Zumba!!! It sounds like such a fun event! I went to Zumba last night and was dripping sweat and I was in a/c! I can’t even imaging doing it in this crazy hot/humid weather!!!

I typically drink water during my workouts too, but sometimes I think I need to hydrate with something that puts the nutrients back into my body. I’m not a fan of Gatorade, so these drinks sound quite interesting. I’ll have to check them out!

Love your Summer of Fitness idea! I saw pics of people doing yoga in Times Square — so cool! Would love to do that. Mountain biking with my hubby or hiking with my dog are my favorite summertime workouts. Burning calories while being outdoors is always a great workout to me!

OMG! a 49 minute video outside! That is amazing! And your form. I’m so inspired. In the next few weeks of summer, I want to test out as many classes as possible too. I think I want to see if I can try an Aerial Yoga class.

Just did this barre video and loved every second! I’m currently straying away from high intensity/impact workouts due to health reasons, but I still love to get a good burn! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll definitely be coming back for more. Thanks!
