Hi everyone! How is your week going? Thanks to everyone who voted for me in the Tampax Awesomely Active challenge! You can vote everyday so if you have a chance, click here and vote for me! I will love you forever! 🙂 Oh hey, and while you’re on Facebook, check out the first day of the Summer of Fitness Challenge!
On Tuesday this week I made it out to Pier 25 on the Hudson River for a class hosted by Uplift Studios and the activewear company, Lole. Uplift is an awesome women’s fitness studio here in NYC and I was so excited to get the chance to workout with them on a beautiful summer evening.
Even better, Melissa from the ValentineRD, whom I met at FitBloggin, was able to attend with me!
It was a circuit style class. We started with a warm-up then moved on to strength, cardio, abs and one more strength section before cooling down. It was a great workout! I’ve even created a mini workout for you if you want to get some of the Uplift experience. Grab your iPod and some water and take this workout outside to your local park!
Lately I’ve had some new and interesting eats, so I thought I would share them with you guys. Sarah from Making Thyme for Health recently posted a recipe using tempeh. Now, I’ve heard of tempeh before but I’ve never tried it and to be honest, it did not look appealing. But I was in need of some lunch recently and I saw this TLT sandwich- Tempeh, Lettuce, Tomato (and Avocado, which is what sold me). So I decided to give it a try. You know what? It was actually pretty awesome! Paired with a beet, carrot and orange juice and I felt like the healthiest person in the world! Or at least in the park where I was eating…
So once I tried the tempeh, I felt like I needed to keep on with this health kick and I made a kale salad for lunch for the rest of the week. Kale plus craisins, sliced almonds, some berries (blue and black), a little bit of sliced onion and some blue cheese. The first time I made it I had a pomegranate vinaigrette, which was delish. The second time I made it I forgot the dressing and guess what!? It was still amazing.
O.k. so I know this is the moment you have all been waiting for . . . THE FIRST GIVEAWAY WINNER IS ANNOUNCED!
The winner of the Williams-Sonoma gift card is . . .

“Ooo..I love all these recipes you shared! One of my favorite “healthy remakes” is the banana bread I make. A few simple substitutions makes all the difference.”
Congrats Sarah! Please email me at myownbalanceblog@gmail.com!
Readers, do you like circuit workouts? Have you ever done one outside? Have you tried tempeh before?

August 2, 2013Sarah is awesome! I’ve only been following her for a little while now but I already love all the stuff she makes! Cooking with tempeh will be my next step. I figured best let the professionals do it first before I tried it!

August 1, 2013You’ve been doing so many fun classes! Yes, I really like doing circuit workouts. I don’t think that lifting heavier weights is very fun, so a lot of the time when I do strength training, I’ll get a workout going where I’ll repeat a circuit with the same style as the workout above – doing 1 strength exercise, 1 ab exercise, and 1 cardio move. I like the constant movement and don’t get bored!
FitBritt
August 1, 2013Oh that is a great way to do a circuit! I never thought of doing it like that. Plus it’s easy because you can do anywhere!

August 1, 2013I wish I could swing down to the park for an ultra awesome workout with Melissa. No fair!!! But I love that you’ve captured it for me:-) I love circuit workouts and I love teaching classes that way too – very effective!! And yes, I’ve tried tempeh before and it was meh. I’m willing to try it again…:-)

August 1, 2013Oh it would have been so fun if you were there! 🙂 I think the tempeh was good because it was mixed in with the tomato and avocado, both of which I love!
