Hello friends! Guess what!? It’s Friday!!!! Aka fun day! Do you have any great plans for the weekend? It should be nice! I’m going to see my cousin’s baby. Cuteness will ensue. ๐
So in case you haven’t heard, I’m detoxing this week. I have been doing a fantastic job (if I do say so myself) eating healthy. Yesterday I hit up the farmer’s market and came home with this amazing bounty!
I love going to the farmer’s market because there are always so many great produce options but I hate staring at all this beautiful fruit and veg and wondering what the heck I’m going to make with it. I need a plan and without a plan, I’m a little bit lost. No matter, I figured something out for tomorrow! Although if you have suggestions, please do share!
So here’s what’s been going on with the detox.
FOOD
Food front is doing very well. More Greek yogurt, berries, chia seeds and lots of raw almonds. Leftovers for lunch (what could be easier!). Plus, I made some veggie rolls for dinner. I didn’t re-photograph because I was losing too much natural light and my (ahem) rice paper roller-man is in Mexico, so the rolls were lacking some finesse. But, here’s a photo of the last time I made them.
I used the same recipe but substituted out the meat and just added in more veggies, including some cabbage. Delicious! More chocolate for dessert. I’ve decided along with coffee I’m not giving it up. There I said it.
WORKOUTS
Workouts have been incredibly consistent. More Zumba (filming this weekend!!!!) plus I tried out the Blogilates DVD. I only did a small portion of it but I’m liking it so far. Full review to follow.
SKIN
One of my bucket list items on my 30 Under 30 list was to develop a good skincare routine. This includes some preventive anti-aging measures. I purchased an eye cream and night serum to help with this. I use them on a mostly regular basis but I have to admit that over the summer I have not been so good using them after I cleanse and before I moisturize. I’m just so darn tired when I wash my face. But in the spirit of my detox, I added them back in this week!
MIND
I’ve noticed that I’m kind of lacking on the sleep front and I really need to get another hour of sleep every night. Right now I’m just barely hitting seven and I really need to be closer to eight with my activity level. Since this week is almost over, I’m going to work really, really hard on this next week. I have, however, been listening to ocean sounds on my iPhone instead of music. I find the ocean sounds to be incredibly relaxing and it’s so much easier to zone out and relax my mind while listening.
I hope you have a great weekend!
Readers, what recipes to you make with your farmer’s market veggies? Do you use an eye cream or serum? Have you tried the Blogilates DVD?

September 13, 2013Yay to Farmer’s Markets! My trick is to follow the older Asian ladies (I’m not sure if you have that many there), because they always know where the best deals on all the food are. I love making recipes that I already have in my house, so the last time I went I made green bean and jalapeรฑos. It was so delicious. ๐
I have been meaning to try Blogilaties but never got around to it. I’m looking for a new way to get active so many I’ll try it out!

September 15, 2013Haha! That’s a good tip!

September 13, 2013LOVE blogilates! Cassie puts me in a good mood…unless I’m in a really shitty mood in which case I want to punch her…
Those rice paper rolls! Your rice paper roller man got skilllz
FitBritt
September 15, 2013I know! Her demeanor is really funny! He’s really good at rice paper rolling. Not me! Mine were so floppy and falling apart. They tasted good though!
Kalee
September 13, 2013Your fresh veggies look so good! I usually grill or bake veggies on their own when they are that fresh so I can taste all the flavors ๐
Hope Zumba filming goes great!! ๐

September 15, 2013Thanks Kalee!

September 13, 2013Fresh farmer’s market produce is so amazing! Where do you find the rice paper rolls in the grocery store?
I’m super excited to read your review of this DVD! As you know, I’ve been doing pilates lately and I’d like to purchase another DVD soon.

September 13, 2013oohh yumm those rolls look delicious! i have been all about the anti-aging regiments since my late 20s, and i do have a few creams and serums, but my main defense is suntan lotion. we shall see if that proves beneficial in 10 years or so, but thats my best line of defense against wrinkles at this point.

September 13, 2013I’m not big on eye creams though I feel like I should be. I just use coconut oil and that works well for me. Also I learned as a little kid to be very careful about the skin under your eyes–never tug or pull it because once it stretches it won’t go back. I always wash my face going upwards because I figure it won’t be helping gravity!

September 13, 2013Getting enough sleep completely controls my day…I am terrible about functioning with too little sleep. Lol Nellie and Carla joke about how I will have a major adjustment when I have babies.
Kudos to you for rocking the detox week!

September 13, 2013Sounds like your detox is going great!
I love to buy zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes & fresh basil at the farmer’s market, saute it in white cooking wine, then toss it with a short-shaped pasta. It’s ready in 15 minutes flat and is always yummy!

September 13, 2013I am looking forward to your POP Pilates review. I have been really getting into the yoga/pilates DVDs. I love the freedom these DVDs provide in my schedule.
By the way, your veggie rolls look delicious! I want them for lunch today!

September 13, 2013Those tomatoes!!! They look so super yummy. I’ve never tried Pilates before but I’ve heard such good things it’s on my to-do list ๐

September 13, 2013I don’t sleep enough. Like you its been in bed by 11 and up by 6. I am not even sure when this bad habit started!! anywho. I LOVE farmers markets, the only one I can go to is in Union sq, apparently I saw another one on 34th and 6th right in front of macys today and it looked decent! I started using an anti aging serum that I got at an even this week, and I can ALREADY see a difference! My pores closed up and my face just seems tighter…crazy!

September 15, 2013I go to the one on 47th and 2nd. It’s right by my work and is actually really good!

September 13, 2013I’ve been loving Zumba lately too! I just wish mor gyms/studios offered it in the morning. Most places offer it at night–which is a difficult time for me. I noticed that you do most of your workouts with Zumba. Do you use the Zumba DVD set to do you go to classes often. I know NYC has the best classes. I’ve read all your reviews–lol–and I’m dying to try DMF and the Studio 305. It looks so much fun.
FitBritt
September 15, 2013Thanks Yaara! I use a Zumba DVD and I also go to classes at Z Club NY. I haven’t done a review of them yet but I will soon. I am actually a certified Zumba instructor but I don’t teach because I don’t really have the time! I do post videos on my YouTube channel if you are interested!

September 13, 2013Looking forward to a new Zumba routine on You Tube. You did say you are, perhaps, filming soon??

September 14, 2013Wow!! Props to you on detoxing! I’ve been trying to do that a bit, but I find it’s hard to stay on track and motivated… any tips??
FitBritt
September 15, 2013Totally agree that it’s difficult! I just tried to focus on eating as healthy as I could and planned out my meals in advance so I knew what I would be eating and wasn’t faced with a situation where I was hungry with nothing to eat. I also didn’t totally deny myself (hence the chocolate!) and I stayed within normal calorie range!

September 15, 2013Ha ha. I wish I could get close to 7 hours! This overnight shift is challenging in that regaurd! Speaking of work…that’s my weekend! I can’t wait for your blogaloties review.
FitBritt
September 15, 2013Overnight shift sounds really tough! So far I’m really liking the blogilates dvd!
Carla
September 15, 2013I also have to have a plan or I don’t know what to do with all of the veggies. Those look really good.
Can’t wait to hear what you have to say about the Blogilates DVD. I’ve wondered about this one.
I do use eye creams and such but if I’m low on money it’s one of the first things to get crossed off the list and I just use Vaseline. If it’s good enough for Jennifer Aniston, it’s good enough for me.
FitBritt
September 15, 2013So far I’m really liking the Blogilates DVD. I’ve only done it in small increments not all together yet!
