Hi guys! Can I just say how much I love California!? Every time I visit I want to stay!! The scenery is so picturesque and so varied. I’ve never had a bad experience in good ol’ Cali (and I’m even typing this while it’s raining at the beach!). So this week’s food and fitness is going to be a little sampling of my California vacation. I can’t promise you it’s going to be super healthy on the food front or super impressive on the fitness front, but I can promise you that I enjoyed every dang minute of it! So here we go!
FOOD
Our first stop was in Palm Springs for the Hubs’ cousin’s wedding. I managed to grab a few shots of my eats for the week including:
Wedding Food! The apps were so good: lettuce wraps & tuna tartare. The mains were equally as amazing: ceviche, quinoa and short rib! Yum!
This healthy breakfast the day after the wedding: egg whites, zucchini fritters and cucumber smoothie!
This amazing seafood platter from Chop House in Palm Springs. So fresh and so yum!
This Asian Seafood restaurant, Starfish. We shared banana leaf wrapped sea bass, miso salmon and I had this mango and coconut pudding for dessert!
And finally this delicious cheese platter (LOVE cheese), olives and poached salmon from The Deck in Laguna Beach.
FITNESS
Do you guys have a hard time staying active while on vacation? I actually enjoy going on vacation because it usually gives me a whole different perspective on staying fit. I like to try new things and explore new places. My fitness for this week consisted of filming a new barre video (!) which I will feature on the blog shortly plus some tennis.
It was sooooo hot in Palm Springs. I’m dying here.
Some dancing to Soli Beat. And since I’ve been getting a lot of questions, no this is not my living room. It is the living room of the house we rented in Palm Springs. My living room is a tiny box in NYC.
Hiking!
Can I just say how much I love hiking!? I don’t get to do it often what with living in the urban jungle and all but I have to say that hiking is not only an amazing workout with some stellar views, it is a lot of fun!
And some TurboFire! I threw the entire DVD pack into my carry on. It’s so portable and easy. Plus the workouts vary in length. I did a 25 minute HIIT workout the day of the wedding. I burned a ton of calories and was still showered and ready to go with everyone else. I cannot rave about these DVDs enough.
I also managed to fit in some running, including a run along the beach in Laguna. I’m not much of a runner but the views certainly kept me going!

Readers, what did you eat this week? What did you do for fitness? Do you like to stay active and eat healthy on vacation?
Have a fabulous Friday and weekend! See you next week with some recaps from my adventures in California!

October 11, 2013I thought it was strange how nice your NYC apartment looked! Based on my experience you have to be a housewife of NYC to have a place that nice!
Every.single.day I dream of moving to California. Thanks for taking me on a mini vacation 😉
FitBritt
October 17, 2013Haha right!? My whole apartment could probably fit in that living room.

October 11, 2013I’ve heard great things about turbofire…and I’ve never been hiking! crazy, I know. That food looks amazing, so happy you had a good time!
FitBritt
October 17, 2013Thanks Nellie. It’s hard to find hiking near NYC so don’t feel bad because it’s not something I do very much either!

October 12, 2013All of the food looks delicious. As always, you can switch it up in the fitness dept quite nicely! That has slowly become my favorite thing about this blog! That living room is amazing!
FitBritt
October 17, 2013Thanks Joi! I appreciate that.

October 12, 2013When our salesman from California comes to St. Louis he talks about how much better they eat there. After hearing about this food and seeing the pics, I have to agree! Everything just looks wonderful. And what a nice way to show that healthy eating can be good and fun. In St. Louis for whatever reason mustacholi is the typical wedding food. If you don’t have it people think you’re weird.
I totally agree about fitness and vacations! I love all of the opportunities that vacations for being active.
FitBritt
October 17, 2013I’ve never heard of mustacholi. This was a very non-traditional wedding as the bride was from Australia and the groom from New Zealand. I think I was one of two Americans at the wedding!

October 14, 2013The living room is beautiful! I was wondering if it was yours too! Looks like you have a fabulous time in Cali. Your food looked amazing too!!!
FitBritt
October 17, 2013Thanks Jilliene! I only wish I had that kind of space for a living room in my apartment.

October 15, 2013So jealous! Cali is my favorite vacation spot. Napa and San Fran are my favorite! We were just out there in April and it was so amazing. Glad you had a great trip!
FitBritt
October 16, 2013I love Napa! We were there in December of last year and I would go all the time if I could!
