Hello there! Welcome again to Friday’s Food and Fitness where I share with you my eats and workouts for the last week. This week I am focusing on a fall theme because it seems like everything I do lately has been centered around the fact that it is indeed fall and therefore I must eat and workout like I’m a commercial for the season.
FOOD
I finally bought a kabocha squash! All these blogger ladies have been raving about it and I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. Holy goodness. It was delicious! I roasted it in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes and it came out perfect. I did a little sweet and spicy combo. On about half of them I put sweet spices and the other half I used the spicy. Check ’em out!
Delicious!
I also made this awesome butternut squash pasta with sage and prosciutto on Saturday night. I wasn’t sure how it would come out but I ate it for three days and was so sad when I finally had to put the empty casserole dish into the dishwasher. Definitely will go on the repeat list.
Remember last week when I told you about the awesome meal I had at The Girl and the Fig? Well, I decided to recreate the dish because I loved it so much. Unfortunately my meal ended up being a total mess. It tasted amazing (hello kale, caramelized onions and squash puree!) but it looked terrible. My cakes were not nearly as awesome looking as the ones from the restaurant so I did not even bother to take a photo. #FAIL
But I made up for it a little with my shoshito peppers recreation. When we visited Laguna Beach, we ate lunch at this Japanese restaurant and the shoshito peppers there were amazing. I decided to recreate them at home with a little bit of soy sauce, honey, oil (should have been sesame but I ran out and used olive instead) and ginger. So yum. I ate them right up!
FITNESS
This week’s fitness has been pretty standard from me: Physique 57 and Zumba. Wipe those shocked smiles off your faces right now! I know, you are sick of hearing it but that’s because I’m NOT mentioning the TWO *secret* projects I have been working on because if I did it would obviously ruin the surprise. So hint, hint . . . you are going to need to check back next week and probably the week after as well! ๐
Although I have been reaching one of my goals for Awesome October – to stretch more. I found these awesome short yoga videos on YouTube by Tara Stiles called The Yoga Solution. They are five to ten minutes long and are perfect to throw in at the end of your workout for a great stretch! Highly recommend! There are more on YouTube but here are two good ones.
Readers, what did your eats look like this week? Any fun and new fitness things you’ve tried? Tell me what you are doing this weekend (I really want to know so I can get some ideas!).

October 25, 2013Yum, your kabocha looks good! I always try to recreate meals that I like when I go out to eat too and it can be really hard sometimes. At least it tasted good!
Can’t wait to find out what the projects are that you’re working on!
FitBritt
October 25, 2013Thanks Sarah! I guess I should give myself kudos for trying and on a weeknight no less. Oh well! Have a good weekend!

October 26, 2013I’m going trunk or treating. But before we go we are having a chili feast. Yum! My mom is making it so I’m sure it’s going to have red meat in it (I don’t cook or eat red meat normally as I don’t really like it — and I can see cows out the window of my kitchen) but I will get through.
I don’t think your recipe was a fail if it tasted good. I think making food look good and then getting good pictures on top of it is one of the hardest thing ever! Trust me. No one is going to ask me to be their food stylist.

October 27, 2013You’re right, bloggers seriously are always raving about kabocha squash! Funny enough, I’ve never cooked with one either, but definitely want to pick one up soon and experiment with it.
