New York, New York

Hey there!  Hope you had an enjoyable weekend!  Ours was pretty low key but we did some fun things that were pretty quintessential New York.  Remember when I told you about our trip to the U.S. Open?  Well, apparently you can actually play tennis on the U.S. Open grounds!  Who knew!?  Tennis courts are a hot commodity in this city and to book space can be costly.  This place was not cheap but we did get a reduced rate for going later in the evening.  Plus, it was indoor, which is really hard to find.

I also broke out my baking skills this weekend and successfully made an Apple and Cranberry Crumble with all the apples we picked up last weekend apple picking.

Crumble 1

I don’t know about you, but I am much better at cooking than baking.  I’m not sure why.  In theory if you are good at one you should be good at the other, but cooking is so much easier for me than baking.  Luckily this Crumble came out really good!  The recipe was from Gina at Skinnytaste.

Crumble 2

I also cooked up some kale chips because I got the biggest bunch of kale at the farmer’s market last week.  It was almost as big as my head!

It was such a nice day on Sunday so after brunch with some friends, the Hubs and I decided to walk the Brooklyn Bridge.  I did this a few years ago but the Hubs had never actually done it.  I thought I could get some good pictures so we made our away across the famous landmark.  The photos didn’t come out too bad!

Finally, I wanted to let you guys know about this awesome product that has recently launched in NYC by Kathryn Moos, a former professional soccer player and entrepreneur.  She created VROU, a multi-vitamin drink aimed at helping women stay healthy and get more nutrients into their daily lives.  VROU is full of antioxidants and electrolytes and tastes great (I know from experience!).

VROU 1

VROU is partnering with Plum Alley, an entrepreneurial site for women, to be one of the first companies to participate in Plum Alley’s new crowd funding platform. VROU is raising funds to support their next production run and expand their current flavor offerings, and in return supporters will be rewarded with VROU, VROU apparel, and other health and wellness packages and experiences. If you would like to support a female entrepreneur achieve her dream and help us stay healthy and well, you can visit her link to Plum Alley for more information and to become a supporter.

Oh and one last thing . . . GO SOX!

Readers, what did you do this weekend?  Do you prefer cooking or baking?  Are you watching the World Series?

You know I love my baking 🙂

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge was one of my fav things to do in NYC. Such spectacular views. You’re making me want to go back!

Definitely a low key weekend, but still fun. Too much good food though. 🙂 I would prefer baking if the clean up wasn’t so bad. I feel like there are always twice the amount of doshes with baking.

Those shots of NYC are great 🙂 I really miss that place! I’m finally getting my act together and am getting back on the exercise wagon, so this weekend was pretty low-key. I’m not a baker or a chef, but I’m an excellent cocktail maker! Happy Monday!

Thanks Natalie! Good for you for getting back on track after the marathon! 🙂 Good cocktail makers are welcome in my house anytime!

I’m with you on the baking vs. cooking. I’m definitely better at baking things and that crumble looks like it would go so well with my coffee!! The pics of the city came out GREAT! My friend was just there this weekend and sent me all kinds of pics and updates of celebrity sightings in Tribeca so now I really need to get there!! I want to plan a trip in the winter when the city is decorated for the holiday season. If I do, we have to meet up!

I’m totally a better cook than a baker. It’s funny how that works and the same goes for my mother. Those NYC pictures are awesome!

Thanks Lauren! My mom is actually a much better baker than I am but I think I’m a little bit better at cooking (she is still amazing though!).

Looks like so much fun! I know exactly what you mean but I’m the opposite….definitely way better at baking than cooking. I try, though 🙂

Okay, I’m like the worst St. Louisan ever! Everybody kept talking about the Cards and it was three games in before I figured out what was going on. And honestly, the fact that Bones isn’t on tonight is really upsetting me. But…yeah, Cards!

I have not been to New York but would love to. Especially if I can take my mom because it’s her dream place to go. Although, I doubt seriously she would do all the fun active things with me. But I still want to go with her. 🙂

Love your pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Haha! Don’t worry I’m not a super crazy fan so I totally feel ya. You should definitely take your Mom. That would be such a great trip! 🙂

How fun to get to play on the US Open grounds – very cool!

I definitely love both cooking and baking, but I think I’m a better cook. It’s easier for me to get creative and for things to turn out well when I cook. But, I do have to say that I find baking to be more therapeutic than cooking. PS – your apple crumble looks yummy!

Those pictures of the city are beautiful! I like baking when I’m not trying to make something healthy, then it’s much easier to have success. That crumble turned out great, I love Gina’s blog.
I am loosely following the World Series but I don’t really care who wins. Looks like your Red Sox are about to take it though!

Your pictures are great!! I especially love the ones of the bridge. What a really cool experience!! love it.

I am definitely a baker more than I am a cook. Although I love both, I never screw up baking 😉

Brittany is the BEST. She is inspirational, motivational and innovative. No two classes are ever the same. I'm sad when the summer classes end, but I'm looking forward to checking out her online classes this fall and winter.

My wife and I decided to give Balance Barre Fitness a try and we were not disappointed. We thought the classes would be pretty easy but were surprised at how rigorous they were. The class was great for working on our coordination and core strength. I don't get to many ...
