Hello all! Happy Wednesday! I had a minor kerfuffle with my computer yesterday and Monday when it stopped charging. Yikes! So yesterday at lunch I stopped at the Apple store and $79 later I was hooked up with a new charger. At least they had my charger in stock! Does anyone else notice how Apple kind of forces you to buy their latest technology by making older technology obsolete? I couldn’t even buy a cover the Hub’s iPad case I got him two years ago. Two years is not a long time for an expensive item!!! O.k. rant over. Sorry about that.
On to happier topics today. . . SUNSHINE! With the days getting progressively shorter and my vitamin D levels beginning to plummet, we could all use a little bit more sunshine in our lives. Recently Cailee nominated me for the Sunshine Award. If you don’t know Cailee, she is an extremely positive person that pretty much defines the Sunshine Award. So you can imagine how honored I was when she nominated me!
So here are my answers to Cailee’s questions:
1. What got you interested in blogging?
I started reading some blogs while putting together a list of 30 Things I wanted to do before I turned 30. From there I stumbled across more and more healthy living bloggers, all of whom I loved! I decided I wanted to write about my passion and viola, My Own Balance was born!
2. What are the goals of your blog?
Well, I really want to use my blog as a platform for other projects like a fitness video or an e-book or something. But on the day to day side of things, I really just want to create something that I love and hopefully others will love as well. I want to motivate people to love exercise and healthy living. I want to connect with people who already do love it!
3. How often do you exercise?
Most days of the week! I sit at a desk nine hours a day plus additional sitting down for blogging time so I try to be active everyday. I workout most days and on “rest days” I try to do things like stretching/gentle yoga, walking or something that helps get me moving. Of course there are days when I just do nothing too!
4. What is your favorite type of exercise?
Ohhh this is tough because I love so many different forms of exercise: cycling (indoor and out), water sports, tennis, kickboxing. I guess I have to stay true to my dancing roots though and go with my top two favorites: barre & cardio dance/Zumba.
5. Now that the holiday season is upon us,
do you have any tips to stay healthy and prevent weight gain?
Stay active. Diet is really important but during the holidays we tend to indulge more and that’s ok for a short period of time but you’ve got to stay active to keep the pounds off. Sign up for a turkey trot, do yoga, try a new class, squeeze in a walk at lunch. Just keep moving! Also, try to avoid treats at work and save the holiday indulging for parties/dinners with friends and family. You’ll enjoy it more and you’ll feel good for not giving into every single temptation.
6. What is your favorite splurge food?
Hmm… I have to pick just one? I guess it would be cheese or chocolate. Definitely not chocolate cheese though.
7.What’s your eating philosophy?
My eating philosophy is “eat healthy most of the time, make good choices and it’s ok to splurge on occasion.” Also, save up your splurges for when it really counts and you’ll enjoy them more!
8. In a typical day, what are some of the foods you would eat?
Hmm well my foods change a lot from week to week because I love trying out new recipes but a few things you might see over and over include: Greek yogurt, oatmeal, nuts (probably almonds), almond butter, salads, kale (love kale chips!), fruit. For dinner I love whole-wheat pastas, vegetables, Mexican/Italian/Asian-inspired recipes . . . I could go on.
9. What is in your grocery cart?
Funny you should ask…I’ve got a screen shot right here of this week’s groceries! 😉
Can’t go wrong at the farmer’s market!
10. Best tips to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
Find your motivation. If making healthy choices is a constant drag to you, you are not going to stick with it. You have to find what motivates you to keep going. I love to exercise so that keeps me active and prompts me to make healthier meal decisions. Maybe you want to learn how to cook with healthier ingredients or you want to complete a race or you need to lower your cholesterol. You have to find something that helps you make the right decisions.
Readers, your turn! Choose a few of these to answer.
Can I choose cheese and wine? They just go better together 🙂 I love learning why people get into blogging. I started out because I got tired of emailing out recipes haha! Who knew I would actually end up loving it!
OMG you may be more organized than I am! I can’t believe that’s your grocery list!!! You are too much girl. As for Apple? Um YES they totally and completely force you to buy the latest products. I had the very same issue getting a new cover for a 2 year-old iPad. Ridiculous. Yet, I still buy everything Apple so I have no one to blame but me. I hate when that happens! Great post. I love getting to know you even more…
chocolate cheese? ich!! I can totally see you doing a professional fitness video! I’d be the first one online to buy it! Your grocery list is insanely better than my scraps on a post it. I am seriously impressed!!
OMG your grocery list is just so organized! I cannot even believe it 😉 And I love how you linked Vitamin D with the Sunshine award!!! I love my Vitamin D and truly believe it’s what has kept me NOT SICK for the past 3 years!!!! And what’s that you’re watching on the TV? Is that Wii Yoga or something?
Even though I have both an iPhone and Mac and have continued to buy their products because they’re awesome, Apple drives me nuts!! They definitely like to update products and then make them incompatible with the last versions – i.e. the old iPhone chargers not working with newer iPhone models. I got a new laptop earlier this year, but before that, there were always issues with how “ancient” my computer was… I was going crazy when I got a new iPhone because it only would work with the latest version of iTunes, but since my computer was older, I was unable to download the newest iTunes and had to buy some special update for my computer’s software. I kept wanting to be like “4 years is NOT that old for a $2,000 item!!” LOL So I totally hear you and am ranting more than you even did!
Apple is so selective about everything! You even have to adjust to using their keyboard functions. It was MAJOR to me. I’m use to it now but I get aggravated going back and forth from it to regular computers at work. I find myself trying to use Apple functions because I live on the MacBook Air 🙂
BODYCOMBAT is my favorite form of fitness currently!
i live by the 90/10 rule: eat clean 90% of the time and that other 10% won’t even make a dent. yesterday it was party after party and they served the worst food (chinese takeout etc) so i ate it and was it good? YES. did i feel guilty? NO because i eat clean almost all of the time and this ONE DAY won’t do a thing to my progress.
Excellent workout as always. It's challenging, fun and easily one of my favorite workouts!
Fantastic class! Great technique pointers. Always new exercises to challenge oneself!
I am excited to take classes with Brittany in person this summer! I have followed Brittany online for some time. I particularly like the Barre and Pilates workout videos. Her workout techniques reflect current thinking and best practices. She supports all levels of fitness. Definitely worth a try!
Brittany is the BEST. She is inspirational, motivational and innovative. No two classes are ever the same. I'm sad when the summer classes end, but I'm looking forward to checking out her online classes this fall and winter.
My wife and I decided to give Balance Barre Fitness a try and we were not disappointed. We thought the classes would be pretty easy but were surprised at how rigorous they were. The class was great for working on our coordination and core strength. I don't get to many ...
