The Busy Girl Guide: My Stitch Fix Box

Hello all!  Happy Happy Hump Day!  I feel like the days are just flying by and I need a few more hours in each day!  I realize a lot of the services I use these days are geared towards helping me gain more time in my week by taking the load off me a bit.  I think more and more successful businesses are looking for ways to make our lives easier so we can enjoy doing things we love.  So I decided to round up these things and create a series (because what blogger doesn’t love a series!?) called The Busy Girl. It will not be a weekly series but more of a once in awhile type thing.

For my first installment I’ve got Stitch Fix.  I know I’ve talked about it before and you’ve probably even heard of it, but I had a really good experience recently so I’m bringing it back! Plus, a styling service with clothes delivered to my door?  Doesn’t get easier than that!

You may remember that my first fix didn’t go so great.  I ended up returning everything.  Whomp whomp.  I am happy to report that this time, I was much more successful!  I got this fabulous blue shirt that has a cool cowl neck to it.  I wore this to work but I’ve also worn it with jeans to brunch!  Paired it with this yellow necklace I have from Banana Republic and now I’m feeling really colorful even in the winter.

Stitch Fix Outfit 3

I also got this really pretty black peplum top with beading on the neckline.  Loved this top!  I wore it with these olive skinny pants that also came in the box and black riding boots for a casual outfit but I’ve also worn the top with pants and heels for a dressier look.

Stitch Fix Outfit 1

Normally olive isn’t really my favorite color but I liked these because they fit well and they are a different kind of neutral.  They looks great with flats and heels AND I don’t have to hem them.  When you are 5’2 you automatically have to add a percentage on to every single pair of pants to get them hemmed.  So annoying!

Finally I got these awesome black twill bootcut pants.  I love how these make my legs look really long.  Ok the high heels don’t hurt either.  I should probably get these hemmed but I think they kind of work with really big heels so I’m sitting on that one for a bit.  The only thing I don’t like about these pants is that they are a low rise and they stretch a bit so after I wore them a few times they kind of felt loose at the waist.

The only thing I returned was this wrap dress.  It just didn’t look flattering on me at all.  I actually already have two wrap dresses that I absolutely love so I wasn’t too concerned about returning this one.

Stitch Fix Outfit 2

I love how the box comes with a style guide for the clothes they send you so you can dress it up or down depending on what your plans are.  Although I get the styling guide and I immediately want at least three or four things on there that I don’t own!  I actually love the style guide for the blue top: white jeans, neutral purse and animal print plants.  I am going to be rocking this outfit come spring (whenever that may be . . .).

My stylist, Liz, also gave me some styling suggestions in the note she sent me, which was awesome because it didn’t require a lot of additional pieces that I don’t own.

Overall I was very satisfied with my second Stitch Fix box (referral link)!  I left pretty detailed notes when I returned the items in my first box and it was clear that my stylist was listening.  Her note was incredibly nice and I feel like she truly was looking for pieces that I would enjoy in this box.  If you try Stitch Fix, I highly recommend being as specific as possible since your stylist has to get not only the style but also the fit right.

Readers, have you tried Stitch Fix?  Have you ever used a styling service?  What do you do to make buying clothes easier for you?

    I have not used Stitch Fix–should I?

To make shopping easier, know your colors and have your list of “nevers.” Some of my “nevers” are:

Never buy 100% acrylic unless you intend for the item to have a relatively short shelf-life.
Never buy 100% rayon, unless you do not mind thoughtful ironing to get and maintain the drape of the garment.
Never buy something that has too much fabric for your height.
Never buy shoes that even think of pinching, crunching, skidding, or in any way hurting no matter how cute or trendy.

My list of always-buy is much longer.

I LOVE those olive pants on you! It looks like you scored with this Stitch Fix box. I really need to order another one…

Thanks Jillienne. I found my second box was so much better after I gave them detailed feedback about my first box.

I haven’t tried Stitch Fix, but reading a lot about it these days. How did you become affiliated with them? I would like to try it. Is it expensive?

    • FitBritt
      February 5, 2014

I am not actually affiliated with them, anyone can get credit towards their next order by sharing their referral link (which I did at the end of the post). The credit goes towards you order. The styling fee is $20-so it is basically $20 per box. You can choose a price range you would like for your clothes and they will send you items within that price range. If you choose to keep the items you get charged for them, if not you return them and there is no charge except the $20 styling fee you already paid. If you do keep the clothes, the $20 styling fee is deducted from the total cost of your order. Hope that helps! I think it is really fun and you don’t have to do it every month!

I haven’t tried this service yet. I recently won a session with a stylist that i am saving for later in the Spring.

Also: The Limited offers a free hemming service if you have Limited Credit Card. I signed up just for that benefit. The turn around is a week or less too. I’m only 5’3″ so I feel your pain. 😉

Good tip! I’ll look into that the next time I buy work pants. I have the biggest problem with jeans.

Stylist session sounds so cool! How did you win it?

I love, love, love that blue cowl neck top and it looks fabulous on you! I love it with that cute necklace too. I’ve been wanting to try Stitch Fix, but I’m such a picky and bargain shopper that I’m not sure I would love it. It sounds like so much fun though!

Love the Busy Girl series idea! I think you’re right that companies are tapping into the whole idea of convenience lately, which is brilliant because so many of us are crazy busy. I haven’t tried Stitch Fix but have heard so much about it… love the color of the blue shirt!

Thanks Nicole! I’ve been seeing these services so much these days I thought it was a good way to tie things together!

These things are SO cool. It almost makes me wish I had a real job to wear clothes like this too!! Seriously though, I hear you on having to hem everything (I’m 5′ 1″), I LOVE the style guide and the fact that she really listened to you and took your comments into account before sending you another set of fabulous clothes! That is awesome and you look GREAT!

Thanks Allie! The style guide really helps because I can pick out cute pieces but putting them together is sometimes hard. Hemming is the worst!

I haven’t tried Stitch Fix but I keep hearing great things about it.
If I dressed up more often I might look into it but since I wear yoga stuff more than anything I guess I will just enjoy your pictures and review!!!

I’ve heard lots of good things about Stitch Fix but have yet to try the service. How fun to get a box of clothing chosen specifically for you. Love the blue top they sent you this time around 🙂

I get weary about trying those sites because I am very particular about my clothes but I have heard very good things about Stitchfix (and they are based in SF!)

I also just bought a pair of olive pants and they are my new go-to.

I have never heard of stitchfix before, (possible it’s only in the US?) it’s very common here in India to buy a piece of material and get it stitched at the local tailor. It’s also way cheaper than buying it in the store! Am loving your wrap dress 🙂

So your outfit is SUPER cute and definitely something I would wear for SURE! I especially love the necklace so gorg! I feel like I can lose days on this website, I just love mixing and matching outfits like that. And girl, I feel your height struggle, the lady at the cleaners is very familiar with me coming and getting most of my pants hemmed!!

Ok now, I liked this one better too.
