Friday’s Food & Fitness: On the Table

Hello all my lovely friends!  Another Friday is here!  I can’t believe how quickly the week flies by!  We are here with another edition of Friday’s Food & Fitness!  So many fun things to talk about as always so let’s get right to it!

FOOD

Before I delve into all of my eats, let me tell you about an amazing thing Miss Davida over at The Healthy Maven has going on this month.  She is hosting a Bake Off beginning on February 9th and going until February 14th where she’ll be posting a healthified version of a baked good. Davida is challenging YOU to do the same and link up with her on February 14th.  So put your baking caps on now and think of something good.  My hot pink mixer may make an appearance.  Just sayin.

So recently I’ve been really into cooking up some new and exciting dishes like my first experience with homemade hummus.  I decided to drag the Hubs to a Date Night Cooking Class at Sur La Table last weekend for Chinese New Year!  We did a Tuscany Date Night there last year and it was so much fun!

On the menu this time around:

  • Kung Pao Shrimp
  • Pork Dumplings
  • Pork Roast with Bok Choy
  • Fortune Cookies

All of these things sound really labor intensive but Sur La Table makes it so manageable.  I guess they do a lot of the prep work for you so all you basically have to do is show up, chop some veggies and then throw some stuff in to cook.

The Kung Pao Shrimp were my favorite.  Super spicy and delicious!  I also enjoyed the Pork Dumplings.

Making the Fortune Cookies was so much fun!  They were matcha fortune cookies and they were so much easier to make than I thought.  Folding them up was a bit difficult though. I wrote out a little fortune for the Hubs and vice versa.

Signs of good things to come! 🙂

Overall the class was a great date night and we got to eat a ton of awesome food that we made!  Our chef Lisa was really upbeat making it even more fun.  Plus we got all the recipes to take with us.  There are a few other classes that I want to take including Meatless Meals, Weeknight Meals and one other than I can’t remember for the life of me right now.  If you are looking for a Valentine’s Day idea, I highly recommend this!

FITNESS

I have been keeping up with Find Your Balance February challenge!  Have you!?  Don’t forget the Athleta gift card on the line!  I’ve been following all your check-ins on the challenge page and love them!

I’ve been doing a lot of at-home workouts because with all this crazy weather a lot of classes have been cancelled.  But I found some amazing resources to use at home and they have been kicking my booty!

Zumba

I’ve also been getting my Zumba on pretty regularly AND I made it to Lunchbox Yoga for the fourth week in a row!  So happy about that one.  It’s like a peaceful oasis in the middle of the day.

Readers, what did you do for fitness this week?  Have you ever been to a Sur La Table or any other cooking class before?  Are you going to participate in the Bake Off?  What are you doing this weekend?

That restaurant looks amazingly FUN! I did something sort of similar once with a friend at a Williams Sonoma store. They had a chef from a very popular local restaurant cook for us and we each got small servings of everything and then received a recipe book of all it at the end. It was so much fun and I’ll have to see if they do it anymore!? Thanks for the reminder!
Oh how I wish I could do a lunchbox yoga. I really need more of it in my life!
I’m looking forward to my long run today (11 miles) but have to do loops in my ‘hood since the 13 inches of snow we got on Wednesday are not making the roads fun.
    Happy Friday!

I’ve never done a class at Williams Sonoma but I love that store! A local chef sounds really cool! Our chef was awesome but she was not from a restaurant or anything. I love cooking classes because they really push my boundaries.

Good luck with all your running in the snow! 🙂

I would LOVE to take a cooking class with my bf! A restaurant in our old city started offering outdoor patio vegan cooking classes…. can you imagine?

Completely unrelated, but did you get a hair cut? It looks nice!

And the Sur La Table class looks like a lot of fun. I loved the Cook&Go experience, so I may try this next.

K you’re actually awesome!!! Thanks for sharing Britt! Gah I love you! I owe you a massive dessert when we meet up next time i’m in NYC. I’m thinking a huge slice of carrot cake from Billy’s Bakery?! Okay now I kind of want to hope on a plane right this second 50% to see you and 50% to eat that cake. I can die happy if I get both!

I didn’t know Sur La Table did cooking classes. Do you know if they are only for couples? I am definitely looking into this! Thanks Britt!

I would love to do one of those cooking date nights – what a fun idea!!
I’m not going to participate in the Bake off since I don’t bake but I’m super excited to see what all of y’all come up with!!!

The shrimp look amazing! Guess what! I took BODYFLOW this week and committed to doing one class a week. Your latest yoga video inspired me. I haven’t taken Flow or any flexibility class enough in the past to know the moves correctly, so per your advice, I went in to get hands on instruction. Anywho, eventually, on a week where I can’t go to class, I’ll have your video to turn to. Thanks!

Yay! I’m so glad you were able to make it to Flow. I know it is your goal to work on your flexibility. That class is really great for learning proper positioning, imo. So glad you were able to do that! 🙂

Looks like fun! I’ve never done a Sur La Table cooking class, but I would love to do the class for meatless dishes. Have a great weekend — stay warm!!

Yeah the meatless one is a favorite according to our chef. I have actually been cooking a lot more meatless meals recently!

I bet if you have a Williams Sonoma or a Sur La Table, they offer cooking classes. You are so creative in the kitchen so I am sure you would love it!
