Sydney: The Beaches and More!

Hello all!  Hope you enjoyed a fabulous weekend.  We had a relaxing low key one over here.  Luckily the Hubs will NOT be in Mexico this week so I am looking forward to an entire week with another person around. Yay!

We’ve almost completed our tour around Australia! Today I have Sydney Part 2 for you–the beaches and more!  If you missed my other recaps you can catch up on: the Whitsundays, the Great Barrier Reef, the Blue Mountains  and Sydney Part 1!

One of the reasons I love Sydney so much is that you can be in the heart of the city one minute and then at the beach just a short ride later.  I have to say that the beaches in Sydney are some of the best I have ever been to, which includes better than Hawaii, better than the Caribbean and better than Florida.  The beaches are just so amazing!

Of course one of the beaches you have to visit if you ever go to Australia is Bondi.  It is probably the most famous beach in Australia.  It is a lot of fun but honestly, it is not my favorite because it is so inundated with tourists.  My favorite is Freshwater, which I don’t think I actually took any photos of while we were there!  Manly is a close second.  But Bondi is iconic Australia.

While we were visiting Bondi, we had to make a stop at the Icebergs for lunch.  The Icebergs pool is pretty famous as well!

The views from the restaurant are pretty incredible!

Another great feature about Bondi Beach is the Bondi to Coogee walk.  It is a 6 km walk along the ocean cliffs with beautiful views of the water and the beaches.  From Bondi you pass through Tamarama Beach, Bronte Beach, Clovelly Beach and finally Coogee Beach.  I’ve done the complete walk before but we didn’t have the time to do the whole thing so we just walked to the top cliff to look out at all the other beaches.

I love all the cliffs!

One of my favorite beaches is Palm Beach.  It is all the way north of Sydney (about an hour).  It is a popular area for Australian celebrities and sports icons and there is even a TV show filmed there called Home and Away.

How would you like to live in one of these houses?

Pete’s cousins actually live on Collaroy beach so we took the opportunity to visit them and chill out at the beach!

I love watching the surfers!

And the waves! Haha!

And of course when we got tired of the beach, we headed back to their house to lounge by the pool!

Even though I love Sydney beaches we didn’t spend all our time at the beach!  The Harbour is always a draw and we spent a lot of time walking around the Harbour and the City!

One of my favorite places in Sydney is the Opera Bar located on the bottom floor of the Opera House.  It is open to the general public (no tickets required) and has some great views of the Harbour.  You can eat or drink outside and just take in the view!

My absolute favorite restaurant in Australia is Ripples located on Milson’s Point.  It is about a ten minute walk from my old apartment and I just love how it is this gem with amazing views but is still pretty casual and not touristy.

We had a great dinner there and my in-laws actually got me this amazing bottle of wine!

For my 30th birthday I said that I wanted to buy a bottle of wine to age.  Well, my in-laws actually got me a bottle of wine that was already aged!  It was a 2005 shiraz from the Barossa Valley from Bethany vineyards.  It was absolutely delicious!

Obviously everyone had a great time!  We dined at Ripples the night before NYE so I snapped some cool photos of the Harbour as they were preparing for the big show!

Btw, I made this awesome video of us doing SUP at the Spit in Manly.  It was so much fun!

Readers, what did you do this weekend?  Any big plans for the three day weekend?  Have you ever had aged wine?

Awesome way to spend some time with your families! Cool video of SUP–must be a great camera.
This weekend, at our home we hosted dinner for some family. We’d not seen them for “ages” because of being away over the holidays on a grand, spectacular vacation!

Glorious!!! I love both of your dresses! Curt and I just skyped with his cousin who is living in Bondi. She’s loving life out there. I’m about 5 seconds away from jumping on a plane and joining her! Not before I stop by my parents house who just called to tell me I have a package waiting from a Britt Bendall!!!!!!!! Cannot wait to open it. You seriously are the best!!!

Yay! I’m so glad it made it to you. I hope that everything arrived as I took a few liberties with customs….

I love your grey striped maxi! And you look SO SO SO happy in these photos. Nothing crazy this weekend…except for a fun pole dancing class I took with Nellie for her birthday bash. I am still a bit sore now.

Oh my goodness! All the beaches are beautiful! I wish I had more than 3 days in Sydney! Have you ever been to Brighton Beach? I sort of want to go there to see the color beach huts!

I don’t even know where to start with all the greatness in this post! WOW!!! I’m still taking in all the pictures from the beach and then there’s the pool lounging at an amazing house, your wardrobe (gorgeous!) wine, food and SUP with a video? Just too much! You did an amazing job capturing all that you did in Australia. I love these updates and can’t wait to see what you’ll do next!

Thanks Allie! I love reliving the whole experience. I feel like we go on vacation and then kind of forget about it when we get back to our daily lives!

Oh – I so wish I could live in these pictures!!! Those houses on the side of the cliff overlooking the beach are awesome!!!
I’m not sure that I’ve ever had aged wine – I’m to impatient!!!

Every day I ask myself why we ever moved away! 🙂

I tried the aging thing and it didn’t work so luckily my in-laws bought one that was already aged!

Australia looks so beautiful! I’ve traveled all over the world, but that’s one place I’ve never been. I hope to visit someday.

The Icebergs pool looks insane, and these pictures, as with all of your Australia pics, are BEAUTIFUL!

I love that your in-laws gave you a nice bottle of aged wine for your birthday. I always have a hard time letting wine age — I get too excited to drink it! haha I think when I want to age a bottle, I may just have to hide it from myself…

The water is so beautiful in the pictures. I see why that pool is so famous! I am thinking you need a TV show for all these adventures. That paddle boarding video looks amazing.

You and your husband are adorable together.
