Ok, back to food and fitness!
I have been on a huge smoothie kick this week and decided to put together a little tutorial on some of my favorite smoothie combos. Check ’em out:
Oh, and I tried my first Acai Bowl this week. It was so good! So much better than I originally thought it was going to be. I loved it! This one was called the Coco Acai and had acai berries, banana, coconut milk, cocnut flakes and hemp granola. Just typing this makes me want one right now!
Another win this week were the enchiladas I made. It was my first time making enchiladas and I cannot tell you why on earth I waited so long. They were amazing! I loved every single bite and am going to add these babies into my rotation!

I tweeted out this article the other day on some restaurants banning photos of food. As someone who takes photos of their food religiously, I couldn’t imagine why someone would want to stop (besides the fact that it is probably annoying to everyone but me). So here’s the deal, chefs work hard to create a brand through their food and photos taken in dimly lit restaurants are not always the best representation of the food, the chef and their brand. So in order to protect their image, some chefs and restaurants want to ban food photography.
Personally I think this is kind of outrageous. I mean any publicity is good publicity, right? Plus, I think it is kind of lame for someone to tell me what I can and cannot take photos of. I mean, maybe the chefs could invest in some better lighting for their restaurants or have a photo section complete with photo props! If someone told me I couldn’t take a photo of my food, I would probably be a bit offended and not want to eat there again.
I don’t want to talk about fitness today. Sure I could tell you about the yoga or Zumba or barre class I did this week but instead of talking about what I did do, let’s talk about what I didn’t do. And that is workout. It doesn’t always come across here when I’m talking about all the things I do to stay fit and active, but rest is just as important as logging those cardio miles and lifting those heavy weights.
I read this article recently on why rest days are not optional and it really reminded me that I need to take time out, rest my body and allow it to repair so it can perform at its very best. I think sometimes in the fitness community, we get so wrapped up in the workouts we are doing, we forget to stop, breathe and allow for the good things we’ve done for our bodies to take effect.
On rest days I love to do some guided meditation with YogaGlo. I just lie down and listen the teacher while I relax my body and focus on my breath. I’ve actually fallen asleep a couple of times doing this. I can’t tell you how nice this feels!
So take this as your PSA for the week: don’t forget your rest day(s)!

I agree – rest days are so important! And I think in the fitness community, especially online, there’s this whole culture of “Work through the pain, work work work, keep going…” and that’s just not healthy. Everything in moderation!
A ban on food photography is ridiculous. And you know people will sneak a photo anyways as long as they have a phone in there hand. Restaurants would literally have to take phones from customers (which will NEVER happen) to avoid having photos taken.
And I love acai bowls! I haven’t had one in forever though. Yum yum yum.
Great smoothie options!! I love how you laid them out 🙂 I have done some extra rest days this week in prep for a race that I am running on Sunday…I want to be at my optimal level so I purposely skipped some workouts this week. Rest days are so important!
Your right on with the first picture, although I skip greek yogurt, but adding almond milk, spinach, pb&b is always a winner! I take 1-2 rest days during the week depending on how my week is set up. This week will be 2 off and I’m totally going to enjoy it!
I usually have 3 rest days a week – but they are rest from exercising, not from work and all the other busy life things. Too much to do, too little time.
I am not a big smoothie person, I prefer to get my calories from eating. But I have to admit, I haven’t tried many smoothies either, its not big here in France.
Thanks for the smoothie ideas! I’m so routine that I often stick to the same one, which has milk, spinach, celery, cucumber, pear, almonds, and vanilla protein. It’s delicious, but I could stand to mix things up 🙂 I’m a huge fan of rest days and typically take 2-3 each week. I love working out but savor those off days!
I hadn’t heard about the food photography ban. Where have I been? Oh yeah, hitting the pavement and working like crazy! But I digress…a ban? That’s just silly and it’s free publicity. I’ve been thinking about investing in a good camera to take better pictures. Have you considered it before? I’m looking for advice.

Since I’m paying for it, I feel like I can take whatever photos I want. The restaurants should ban all photography all together if they don’t want photos of the food being taken. Otherwise, I paid and I’ll do what I want with it.
I hadn’t heard of the restaurant food photography ban before but I think it’s totally ridiculous. Can you imagine snapping a quick shot of a dish and someone coming over saying, “Excuse me miss, but you are NOT allowed to take pictures of the food here.” I’d totally just laugh in their face thinking they were joking!

I am excited to take classes with Brittany in person this summer! I have followed Brittany online for some time. I particularly like the Barre and Pilates workout videos. Her workout techniques reflect current thinking and best practices. She supports all levels of fitness. Definitely worth a try!
Brittany is the BEST. She is inspirational, motivational and innovative. No two classes are ever the same. I'm sad when the summer classes end, but I'm looking forward to checking out her online classes this fall and winter.
My wife and I decided to give Balance Barre Fitness a try and we were not disappointed. We thought the classes would be pretty easy but were surprised at how rigorous they were. The class was great for working on our coordination and core strength. I don't get to many ...
