HI friends! Hope you had a fabulous weekend! We were b-u-s-y, busy! Brunch on Saturday with the Hubs, plus a prenatal fitness workshop and tickets to see Eddie Izzard on Saturday. While on Sunday we a tennis lesson plus a visit the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. I seriously love springtime in New York. Everything starts to bloom, people are out and about and sidewalk cafes are open for business. You wouldn’t think living in an urban jungle that there would be much in the way of greenery, but in reality, there are tons of flowers and trees blooming throughout the city.
In fact, ever since we visited the New York Botanical Gardens last month to view the Orchid Show, I’ve heard how wonderful the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens are. So this weekend we decided to drive out to Brooklyn and explore the gardens.
I’m so glad we went! Everything there was so lush and green and incredibly beautiful. The New York Botanical Gardens were lovely but outside of the Orchid Show, there were no other flowers or interesting gardens.
Right away when we walked in I was struck by the beautiful Japanese peony garden. They were so gorgeous, not to mention huge!
Unfortunately we missed the cherry blossoms but the tree lines path was still gorgeous and incredibly peaceful.
I think my favorite part of the whole garden was the azaleas section. The colors were so vibrant they almost glowed neon!
I loved the all the pinks and purples. Plus there were people just lying in the grass enjoying the day. I felt as far away from the city as possible!
We were a little too early for the rose garden since they don’t bloom until June but next month the garden above is going to be brimming with beautiful roses.
Of course walking around this garden we developed a huge appetite. The outdoor cafe at the garden was actually really good! I had this delicious kale salad with spinach, pepitas, kombucha squash, quino and a bit of pecorino cheese.
I wondered if it came from the gardens? Apparently their produce and herbs are donated to food pantries, however.
Once we were fueled up we walked the rest of the gardens, checking out the Japanese pond and gardens, the herb garden, Shakespeare’s garden and the fragrance garden.
Readers, what did you do this weekend? Does it feel like spring where you live? Do you feel like the weekends are just flying by lately?
