Hello all! We made it to another Friday! I love a short week! 🙂 What are your plans for the weekend? We are still hovering in the 60s and low 70s here, I’m ready to kick it up to beach weather! All of my co-workers prefer winter…I think that is weird. Anywho, welcome to another week of Friday’s Food & Fitness!
Well, you saw my effort earlier this week when I made this two pasta dinner with veggies. I think I forgot to mention it was for six people. Yeah, we didn’t eat that all ourselves.
Besides that I’ve been eating out a lot this week. Eeek! I try to limit the takeout/restaurants mid-week and save it for the weekends but this just wasn’t that kind of week. Oh well. I did get to have a lovely meal with Kimberly from Manifest Yourself. She is so great! I could talk to her for hours and in fact, we did just that.
Oh and for lunch this week, I made this incredible sandwich which I may have stolen from SHAPE magazine. It was so inventive and so good! Mozzarella cheese, arugula and sliced strawberries with balsamic vinegar. Winning combination my friends.
And because I can’t get enough of pasta, I made this great recipe from cooking light. It’s linguine with roasted red pepper sauce, burrata and basil. So delicious! The red pepper sauce is a little difficult to make because you have to roast the peppers under the broiler then peel the peppers and pulse them in a food processor before cooking in a skillet. The recipe estimated 33 minutes to make this and it took me closer to 50! Ugh. But well worth it because it was so delicious! I have some leftovers for tonight. Woo hoo!
You guys, I’m so boring! I have a formula: Zumba, Barre, Weights, Yoga. BUT I’m working on some upcoming posts with more details about my latest endeavors in these areas and I think they’ll be really interesting and fun so stay tuned! In the meantime, I saw this article this week about a couple whose idea of a first date is canoeing. They are now paddling from California to Hawaii to raise awareness about sugar. It’s 2,400 miles and expected to take two months. Whaaaat!?
My first reaction was, yeah I eat way too much sugar. My second reaction was, can’t stop, won’t stop. My third reaction was, hmmm this couple is really active. It got me thinking about my own relationship. My husband and I are normally pretty active (sadly I’ve had to give up cycling this summer for risk for falling-it’s almost as hard as giving up wine). Our idea of a good time is kayaking, SUP, any water sport known to man, tennis, golf—we do it all! I’m not sure we necessarily started out like this, rather it developed over time, but it does make us more compatible for sure.
What about you, dear readers, do you and your spouse/significant other/best friend enjoy being active together? Would you eat a strawberry sandwich? Do you have a set fitness routine or do you like to switch things up?
I love how active you guys are! Curt and I are active in our own way. We are always doing something but not necessarily fitness focused and if it is, it better involve wine and ice cream at the end lol. We’re more of a “trek to the beach is good enough” kind of couple.
My husband and I really enjoy hiking, biking, and lifting weights together. Admittedly, I’m a little more apt to spend a free afternoon lounging and reading, while my husband wants to be go-go-go active all the time. He especially enjoys playing sports with a big group of people; I’ve tried but can’t will myself to enjoy things like ultimate frisbee. I’m usually the cheerleader 😉
I would definitely try a strawberry sandwich. That one looks pretty tasty. My husband and I like to weight train together and we go camping a lot in the summer. I love to run but he can’t so doing that activity together is out.
That sandwich sounds like a yummy combo – I must try it soon!
Ummm girlfriend you are not boring… boring would be if you ONLY did Zumba every day and nothing else, not doing 4 different kinds of workout in a week! Ha.
I love sweet foods and totally eat too much sugar too… I try to cut it down but I love honey! And flavored yogurts! And dessert! All in moderation yes?? 😉
My hubby and I are the same way. We love to do active things together! Our biggest one is hiking, and I want to get back into playing tennis together. He has been going surfing a lot but I’m not into it so I just read on the beach…which is not too shabby for me either!
Oh yes! Flavored yogurts! I just saw a news clip on how yogurts can contain a lot of added sugar. Luckily Chobani wasn’t one of them, but I still think there is added sugar that isn’t great. I just tell myself that at least I’m getting low-fat dairy with probiotics!
You and your hubby are very active together! Surfing is tough. I’ve done it a few times but it can be kind of scary if the waves are too big or the top of your board gets pulled under.
My boyfriend will bike with me but other than that he’s not a big fitness fiend. Although I think the warm weather has gotten him a little more motivated because he did a HIIT workout with me the other day! Hopefully I don’t jinx future workouts to come haha. WHO likes winter more than summer?! That’s insanity!! And that canoe trip sounds really…I don’t know I get the effort but just stop eating sugar, don’t go all Louis and Clark! That’s a bit too far.
oh man i’d totally eat a strawberry anything, i think, although i’m not big on bread. i’m single but would def want to be with someone who is super active, and i generally follow the same routines: running and circuit training/weights. but i need to start yoga! in summer i kayak as well.

Chris and I rarely workout together (we have very different ideas about working out!!) but we occasionally go on golfing dates!!! (I suck at golf but….)
I can’t believe your coworkers prefer winter! Blah. All of your food looks delicious! I feel just like you about sugar. It’s just too yummy and I think I’ll always have it in my life. I love being active with my husband and family though!
Jason is not active with me. I would like to say it’s just because of his diseases but we didn’t work out together when he was well. We had a brief period where we tried playing tennis but we were both so lousy that we quickly gave that up. We’ve always been good at power shopping together. Does that count?

I eat way better than my husband and I feel bad, but I nag him about it. He is so slim so I am more worried that he consumes too much sodium, sugar, etc and not enough healthy veggies. I just want him around for a long time!

I am excited to take classes with Brittany in person this summer! I have followed Brittany online for some time. I particularly like the Barre and Pilates workout videos. Her workout techniques reflect current thinking and best practices. She supports all levels of fitness. Definitely worth a try!
Brittany is the BEST. She is inspirational, motivational and innovative. No two classes are ever the same. I'm sad when the summer classes end, but I'm looking forward to checking out her online classes this fall and winter.
My wife and I decided to give Balance Barre Fitness a try and we were not disappointed. We thought the classes would be pretty easy but were surprised at how rigorous they were. The class was great for working on our coordination and core strength. I don't get to many ...
