Hi friends! We’ve made it to Friday! Who am I kidding? Everyday is simultaneously a Friday and a Monday for me. Life as a stay at home mom (currently). The good news is that the Hubs comes home from Mexico today and my parents are in town for the weekend. Whoot whoot!
Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday’s Food & Fitness. I took a little break on this series around the time Coops was born and I’m happy to be back at it! It keeps me accountable.
You may have gathered from the title that I had some tofu this week. I’m still rocking the Plated meals, which I can’t rave about enough. However, my attempt to make a healthy meal this week just didn’t really work out…we had an Asian stir-fry with quinoa and tofu. Can I just put it out there that quinoa and tofu are just not good? I mean, I’m all about healthy eating but…blah…it just didn’t taste nice! The ginger and the mushrooms were yummy though.
We did have a very nice tilapia piccata with orzo. The fish tasted amazing! I actually really don’t like capers, which are traditionally in piccata, so we left them out and the sauce was so so good. The orzo was delicious and the entire meal felt light and healthy.
We rounded out the week with grilled chicken and soba noodles.
For Thanksgiving this year, we ordered our dinner from Dig Inn, one of my favorite NYC healthy restaurants. They generously gave us two free meals so we headed there for dinner this week and man have I missed this place. I usually go there for lunch when I’m at work but since I haven’t been at work for a few months now, I’ve missed out on my fix. I had grilled chicken, bulgur, couscous with butternut squash and roasted brussel sprouts. Everything was ahhhhhmazing!
I’m starting to get into a routine with the baby and I headed to Babies on Board barre class twice this week!
I also enjoyed some free online classes from Chaise Fitness! The perfect naptime workout.
And I got my Zumba on! It feels so good to be back!
Readers, do you have a favorite healthy restaurant? What was your best class or workout from the week? Do you like tofu?
Glad your back for your Friday Food and Fitness! I have signed up for Plated and I really like the ingredients and the meal! I am always full as the servings seem generous given how Plated puts these meals together. I use this only occasionally but it keeps the fast food away on those busy days! As far as favorite restaurants go–any casual lobster restaurant on Cape Cod or Maine works for me!
Haha, you made me laugh about your quinoa and tofu comment! I think that both totally depend on how you make them, because both are kind of plain and blah on their own. I’ve had meals where I hated the tofu or quinoa, and I’ve definitely had meals where I’ve loved it. With tofu, I usually like it more if it’s chopped up into small pieces, and it’s great if you incorporate it in Asian dishes by sautéing it in sesame oil.
NO to tofu!!! I think it is a texture thing or something – not my favorite!!!
The tilapia and orzo looks really good though – some of my favorite ingredients all mixed!!!
Hope your week was good!
The food looks great this week Britt! I wish I could get to Dig INN as much as I would like to! My nearest one is 3 avenues over and its hard to get there and back AND workout during lunch!
I haven’t found “healthy restaurants” per say. I am sure there must be some in and around Paris, but I prefer cooking. If I eat out, I try to make healthy choices, avoiding anything fried or in sauce.
I do NOT care for tofu. I try to avoid soy in general and am confused how it has a reputation for being such a healthy food since it’s estrogenic. I do like quinoa, but only when prepared with some basil and tomatoes.
I love that pic of you two working out with baby in the carrier 🙂

January 17, 2015Yes! I’ve had them prepared (by others) and they taste good but when I make it at home…not so much!

January 17, 2015It is not so much the texture as the bland flavor that I don’t enjoy!

January 17, 2015I’ve never actually tried tofu because it freaks me out, but I’m willing to bet that I wouldn’t like it either, haha.

January 18, 2015I definitely think cooking is the best way to eat healthy but I like having options!

January 18, 2015I like quinoa when it is prepared by someone else! When I do it, it never tastes great!
