Hi all! As I write this I am on a plane headed to Blogfest/IDEA Fitness Conference. Woo hoo! I’m hoping to come back super inspired with tons of great content for the blog and for my classes. In the meantime, I’m not going to leave you hanging, so welcome to Friday’s Food & Fitness: The Boston Edition.
When I was planning my summer schedule, I knew I wanted to invest some time exploring some of the healthy options the Boston area has to offer. So far I’ve been to the Bar Method, Barry’s Bootcamp and barre3. Well, this week I decided to make a healthy date out of it and brought along two of my favorite people (my other favorites are my husband and father and brother–just fyi): Coops and my mom!
So the driving force behind our trip to Boston was to visit Btone Fitness on Newbury Street. Btone offers a few different classes but I was interested in trying out their signature toning class on the megaformer.
In case you are wondering, the megaformer is a mega version of the pilates reformer machine. It has some extra cables, springs and handles to offer more workout options. It has a moving carriage to help create resistance (the floor is MOVING while you do pilates!!).
The class is only 45 minutes long but you will work very hard and you will definitely feel the burn! Think of doing a lunge and pushing the carriage away from you that has resistance on it or doing bicep curls with cables or planks moving your knees in and out while also moving the carriage. I loved how intense it was!
Because we had the little guy with us, my mom and I took turns taking class. While one person was taking class, the other one took Coops to the Boston Public Library.
They have a new Children’s Library and all I can say is, why I have I not been to the library with my child before? Where have I been? It is amazing!
They had a music class for little kids FOR FREE! Whaaaat!?
They had a woman with a guitar, a drummer and all kinds of other little instruments. Coops was obviously impressed.
Afterwards we headed out into the library where they had tons of books, toys and other fun things. He honestly looks like he is having so much fun! Heart melting.
After class we headed across the street from the library to Sweetgreen. I heard excellent things about this salad joint and although there was one in Brooklyn, I never made it there.
So we joined the lunch crowd and got ourselves some yummy salad and gazpacho.
We headed to the park in front of the library and Trinity Church to eat lunch.
There was a cute little farmer’s market so I snagged some sunflowers and fresh veggies and perhaps a chocolate chip cookie to take home.
And of course some yoga poses before we left. As you do.
Readers, what are your plans for the weekend? How do you find inspiration? Describe your perfect healthy day!
The megaformer is truly an amazing piece of equipment — and a really difficulty workout–I have tried it and I think you have to be even somewhat strong as a beginner with this mode of workout! The day you had in Boston looks gorgeous with the farmer’s market and the Boston PL with Cooper! Good for you! As far as inspiration goes, I find it from my family and very favorite people.
LOVE the mommy and baby selfies!! can you believe I have yet to visit Boston! I had a LOT of my peeps in CA this weekend! The pictures looked so GREAT. Can’t wait to hear your recap. You are all over the place! I can’t keep up. 🙂
I know! I’m here there and everywhere. You would love Boston! Actually it would be so great to have a fitness conference here in the summer because it is such a lovely city when it isn’t snowing! It’s so beautiful.
Ooooh, the Megaformer! The studio that I talk about sometimes, Core40, uses the Superformer – which looks like exactly the same piece of equipment (they’re probably a teeny bit different somehow) and the workout is always a challenging one! I love how you and your mom got creative and took turns taking the class… Can’t wait to hear about Blogfest! I loved checking out all of the pics that everyone has been posting.
Man, it’s so interesting to see Cooper growing up so fast, and I’ve never even met him! Also, the east coast feels so insanely far away now that I’m in British Columbia. Boston seems like a whole other planet. Glad you had a good time there!
Such a lovely day! I imagine my perfect day somewhere in the mountains with my husband, our daughter and the dog. Walking in the woods, eating some tasty salad and soup in the mountain hut… I need a day like this.. We are moving house and everybody is so stressed. Thanks for sharing your healthy day! Greets!
