Hi all! It’s Friday and the end of July. I can’t believe August is right around the corner. This summer is just flying by! I’m going to keep it short and sweet today because we all want to get started with our weekends!
Welcome to Friday’s Food & Fitness. I feel like this week I should cross off the food portion because it was a total blogger fail. I took no photos of my food! I’m sure I ate but I’m not sure what… I think it has to do with getting over my sickness. Not a lot was appetizing to me, hence, not many creative meals.
So welcome to fitness! There was plenty of that in the house this week! Besides my usual two pilates classes and two barre classes (phew!), I taught a barbell class this week. I know, you look at me and I just scream barbells and heavy weights don’t I? Well, seriously, I’m not one of those people that believes you can only achieve a healthy, strong and feminine physique with light weights. Although I think that is great too, I also incorporate heavy weights into my routine so a barbell class is right up my ally!
The class was a lot of fun and I noticed that I’ve really increased my strength recently. I did at least 16 pushups on my toes with absolute ease! Woo hoo! I also found the music to be incredibly motivating even when the weights felt tough. So here’s my workout playlist from class. I hope you enjoy!
Also, in case you missed my post from earlier this week, I am hosting an amazing Instagram challenge starting on Saturday!!! #FindYourFlexibility will help you increase and improve your flexibility throughout the month of August. Plus, I have an awesome prize I’ll be giving away from Momentum Jewelry. Check out all the details here!
Readers, any big plans for August? Do you lift heavy or light weights? Tell me about a time when you thought people were judging you on how you look and then you totally changed their minds.
Heavy weights for sure! I love lifting heavy. I am so excited for your instagram challenge – it’s the first IG challenge I will have done. I always want to get in on the yoga ones, but they always seem so advanced, or I hear about them in the last week or something.
As for your question – I was training a client once when I was about 38 weeks pregnant and I complained to her that someone hadn’t put away their really heavy dumbbells. So I squatted down and picked one of them up (that was my pregnancy modification, doing one at a time) and put it back. My client was HORRIFIED and insisted she would get the other one. So she goes to pick it up and couldn’t (it was a 45). She said she had a newfound respect for pregnant me. Ha!
You are right, Brittany. The time has certainly come to not judge or be judged just by the way one looks. It is perfectly OK for a petit woman to lift weights–any woman really, and still maintain a toned look without a lifter set of arms!
How long are you supposed to hold each pose for the month of August? And should you do the post to the opposite side as well? (If right leg is in front for a pose should you switch and do the same for the left.)
