Les Mills OnDemand

Hiya!  We’ve had a couple of days of some gorgeous hot weather and I’m really digging it!  I’ve been spending a ton of time outside from an outside mommy playgroup to an hour of awesome tennis to just a few walks in the park.  Being outside just makes me happy!

Even though I love getting out and about, I have to admit that I do a lot of my workouts inside.  From teaching my online classes to my own personal workouts, I’m almost always in need on an Internet connection or a DVD player.  I was really excited lately when I discovered that Les Mills has started offering classes online: Les Mills OnDemand.

I’ve talked about my love for Les Mills classes here before but for those of you who don’t know, Les Mills is a fitness company that offers amazing classes choreographed to the latest music. They have everything ranging from cycling to yoga to step to dance and more. I took my first Lea Mills class about 10 years ago when I was living in Sydney Australia. Les Mills is a New Zealand company so the classes are pretty popular down under.

I fell in love immediately and eventually got certified in one of their dance programs, BODYJAM.

Unfortunately, after moving back to the U.S., I noticed a lack of Les Mills classes.  They just didn’t have the same popularity here.  Since that time, popularity has increased but I would not say they are ubiquitous.

So when I found out I could do these classes at home, I was over the moon!  I immediately signed up for a free trial and since then have continued on as a paying member. Here’s my breakdown of the Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • There are a ton of great Les Mills programs offered including: BODYCOMBAT, BODYBALANCE/BODYFLOW, RPM, CXWORX, BODYPUMP, SH’BAM and GRIT
  • The videos are the actual videos that instructors receive to teach the program so you know you are receiving the best of the best here.
  • The OnDemand classes allow you to try out a whole bunch of different programs, even if you’ve never been to a live class.
  • They are only 30 minutes so they are perfect for when you are super busy and need a quick workout or you can combine them to make a longer workout.
  • The music in these classes are really good.  Les Mills is known for their high quality choreography and music.  Music is so tough for online workouts and videos because of copyright laws but they’ve managed to really invest in the music licensing so you get to listen to popular songs.
  • The OnDemand classes are just like the classes you would attend in person meaning they are, in short, awesome.

Cons

  • Not all of the Les Mills programs are included.  Some of my favorites include BODYSTEP, BODYATTACK and, of course, BODYJAM. These are not available OnDemand but I’m hoping maybe in the future?
  • The classes are only 30 minutes.  I want the full class!  They are so good, I wish they were longer.
  • The library is fairly small and, so far, hasn’t been updated.  I’ve done all of the BODYBALANCE videos already and I would totally love some more!  I’m hoping that they will release new videos within time.

Overall I think this is a high quality online program.  I would only ask that they build their library and their variety of classes. But I’ve been having a ton of fun with them and even tried out some new classes like CXWORX and I may have even convinced the Hubs to try the classes with me (and he actually LIKES them!!!!).

I’m also keen to give GRIT a try since the last time I tried it, I was majorly pregnant!

Readers, are you a fan of Les Mills classes?  How was the weather been near you?

When traveling “down under” I had the opportunity to try Les Mills classes. They are interesting and the 30 minute format has a definite place in one’s repertoire. Good to know that they are now available online.

    Weather has been great!

That outfit looks super cute on you friend! I’m with you, while I love outdoor workouts, a lot of my workouts are indoors/at-home as well. It’s great when you find a site that has a lot of great workouts right! I’ve been doing classes from a yoga site and have been loving it (I’ll be reviewing it on the blog at some point in the future!).
