Hi all! So last night I finally watched the series finale of Mad Men. I managed to avoid all spoilers when it initially aired and all I heard was that it was SO GOOD! Watching the episodes leading up to the finale, I was not blown away. I mean, Don has gone off the deep end AGAIN and is driving around aimlessly. What the heck!? Anyways, I was happy to see all the stories tied up in a neat little bow, except for Don. Did he go back to McCann? Did he create the Coke commercial? Whaaaaat???
Anyway, I digress. Welcome to Friday’s Food & Fitness!
Last week I wrote about feeling a little uninspired because we ate the same meal over and over again for three nights. I realized maybe being inspired and making some crazy meal every single night isn’t a realistic reputation and that doesn’t make me (or my blog) boring, just real. I have a 10 month old, I’m running a small business, this baby takes up a huge amount of my time and I am making a big effort to get out and socialize with other expat moms. So, yes, sometimes I eat boring meals or takeout. But, I’ve decided not to let that bring down FFF. In fact, it means I can refocus and add in more recipes. Yay!
This week, Easy Enchiladas were on the menu. I discreetly smuggled brought some enchilada sauce back with me from the US and I had been saving it for the perfect enchilada. These ones were not only perfect, they were also pretty easy.
Also on the menu this week was this fantastic oatmeal with almonds, figs and honey. I was supposed to make overnight oats but I always get lazy after dinner so it ended up being hot oats. You know what? Just as good!
Well, this isn’t completely fitness related but I wanted to let you all know that I’ve updated my About Me page! Over the summer I had a great time taking photos with Lucie Wicker (an amazing photographer!) and I thought this blog could use a little updating. Plus, I’ve amped up on some of my certifications and classes. Check it out!
Readers, did you watch the Mad Men series finale and what did you think? What’s the best thing you ate this week? What cool things have you been up to in fitness?
It’s good to know you’re still human 🙂 I made exactly two dinners in the crockpot this week and that is all we have had! Can I just say I’m really looking forward to eating out tonight?
LOVE your new “About Me” page and fantastic photos! I just updated my “Meet VITA” page and “Work with Me” page so it must be a fall clean-up happening!
Have a great weekend…
I really liked the Mad Men finale! There’s actually a really classy sounding boxed set of the whole series on Amazon that I’ve had my eye on… I’ve just been waiting for it to get released (and then possibly come down from its $200 price tag!).
I found an awesome way to transport liquids from the US to SA. I bought a pile of WineSkins for bringing wine back to the US with some padding and no leakage… but then I found, not only are they reusable, but they are GREAT for bringing down liquids like enchilada sauce, hot wing sauce and maple syrup!
That is really smart using wine skins! We had an almond milk explosion and it ended up on some photos and memorabilia. 🙁 I just don’t think I knew what to expect with the whole Mad Men thing! I think I need to watch it again!
Have you read Tom and Lorenzo? They did AWESOME Mad Men recaps as the show was going, plus some AMAZING insights into the clothing and props used. (They actually were in contact with the costumer designer for the show!) They did a series of recaps of both the series finale, plus a bunch of the main characters through the years/seasons, which really helped me figure out some of the themes/”Easter Eggs” that the creators had hidden in there. I highly recommend it. They called it “Mad Style.”
And for cartons like almond milk–double or triple bag in ziplocs, and then try to find something else to put it in (we try to pack clothing around it too). We also ziploc our paper stuff that goes into the suitcase so just in case something erupts, we don’t have a problem! Only stuff you learn after you’ve had a problem transporting internationally! 🙂 Sorry you got some of your photos and memorabilia ruined! I promise, a few times back and forth from the States and you will be an international liquid-packing ninja! 🙂
Of course I watched the finale of Mad Men–Don created the iconic Coke commercial and McCann took him back, gladly. Joan’s business was a great success and her boy friend never called back–the call she received may have been more great work opportunities coming her way. Peggy stayed with McCann until she put in 3 year and then became a Big-Time-Advertising-Operator probably one of the few women of her time, Or, she was the one who called Joan and they went into a very successful business together; Pegging becoming a Big-Time-Producer-Operator –even though she had trouble directing children in her previous positions. Don hired Joan’s company to produce the Coke commercial and they all made a ton of money, again. When Peggy was shown typing a letter in her apartment with Stan looking over her shoulder, it was either her resignation from McCann so she could go work with Joan, OR, a letter to the adoption agency or whomever to get information on the child she put up for adoption so she could make contact. Pete said good-bye to Peggy, never mentioning the child but giving her a cactus instead–a prickly thing between them. Don became happier and more grounded because of his Guru experiences (like the Beatles during that same timeframe). I could continue but I will let your imagination wander now.
