FFF: Spanish Shrimp Paella + Dancer’s Body Barre

Hello all!  It’s Friiiiiday!  And for me, it is a long weekend!  I have some really fun things planned for one of the biggest holidays of the year in Brazil: Carnival.  I’ll be sharing it all with you next week.  In the meantime, let’s do a little food and fitness recap, shall we?

I recently read this article from Greatist dealing with myths about carbs.  I honestly cannot stand it when people say they are on a low-carb diet.  Our bodies need carbs in order to function!  It is the only nutrient we can convert to glucose, which our bodies need for energy! One of the major myths this article touched on was that carbs make you gain weight.  This was the response: “So people gain weight—not because the carbs are bad—but because they’re having too much.”  DUH!  As with anything, too much of a good thing is a bad thing.  So please, let’s stop making carbs our enemy!

And for this week’s recipe: Spanish Shrimp Paella.  How much does this dish make you want to jump on a plane, jet over to Spain and spend a week behind large sunglasses cruising the Mediterranean, drinking wine and noshing on wonderfully flavored food?

Yeah, me too.

Well, this reveries is not in the cards for me but this recipe certainly makes up for that and allows me a few minutes of daydreaming!  This Spanish Shrimp Paella focuses on healthy and low-cal shrimp with lots of flavor!

Another new video!!  This one is Dancer’s Body Barre Workout.  It combines traditional ballet moves like plies and tendus with my leg shaking, booty shrinking, calorie blasting barre workout.  Even if you are not familiar with ballet, I talk you through this workout to ensure that you know exactly what you are doing!

    I LOVEEEE carbs! We need carbs for energy and they’re so important for our bodies to function properly. People just need to learn how to eat a.) the right kind of carbs, and b.) the right portions of carbs. So many people tell me that their doctor told them they need to go on a low-carb diet to lose weight (GRR!). My opinion is that they need to focus on whole foods and LESS food consumption in general, so that’s what I try to shift the focus to for them.

    Oooh I’m jealous that you’re celebrating the Carnival this weekend! I bet it’s going to be a blast!! Can’t wait to hear about it.

    Thanks for sharing that incredible recipe and new workout! It is going to be fun giving them both a try in the coming days. I am not much of a cook but I shouldn’t have too much trouble if I just stick to the instructions. I was wondering where you were at regarding location. 🙂
