Countdown to Summer Workout Plan: Barre Workout {Outside}

Looking for a workout plan that will get you ready for the summer season?  Follow my Countdown to Summer Workout Plan where every week I post a new workout designed to help get you in shape and you can take it outside!

Hello hello!!  Sorry for the lack of posting on Monday, it was just one of those days where it was 8am and then it was 10pm so I just didn’t get it together.  No worries, I’m back today!

How’s the first half your week been?  I’ve been enjoying the flowers and chocolates my little guy got me for Mother’s Day.

What a sweetie!

Did you know that there are TWO more weekends until Memorial Day and the official kickoff of summer?  Sure, summer doesn’t officially start until the solstice in June, but Memorial Day is the beginning of the season.

If the thought of breaking out the tank tops and shorts is a little scary, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.  I’ve got a whole bunch of new workouts for you to help tone and strengthen up your body in time for summer!  And the best part is, you can take them outside!  Over the next four weekends I’ll be posting a new workout in the Countdown to Summer Workout Plan.  The workouts vary from barre to strength training to yoga.  So stick with me and we’ll be ready for bathing suit season!

For the first workout, we’ll be taking a challenging barre workout outside.  There is sometimes a misconception with a barre workout that you have to stay inside, but I’m telling you the world is full of “barres” and it is super easy to take this workout outside.

Countdown to Summer Workout Plan- Barre

How it works:

Print off the printable here and take it with you outside.  All you need is something to hold on to like a railing, the back of a park bench or anything sturdy!  Watch the gifs and read the descriptions before you go so you know what you are doing and how many reps!  Do the workout 1-2x through and option to add on a walk or run to up the cardio component!

Countdown to Summer Workout Plan- Barre Workout

Plie Releve

Start holding on to your “barre” facing it with hips and shoulders squared.  Rise up onto your toes and bring your heels together to they are touching with toes apart.  Bend your knees and lower into a plie and then straighten your legs to start.  Perform 16x.

Plie

Starting from the Plie Releve position, bend your knees and lower all the way down so your seat is hovering just off your heels.  Push yourself back up but don’t go all the way, keeping your knees bent and your chest about level with your “barre.”  Repeat 8-16x.

Swivel Chair

Start with your feet in parallel and turn your toes and knees so they are on a diagonal but your chest is still squared straight on to the “barre”.  Rise up onto your toes, lifting your heels off the ground keeping your knees, thighs and ankles together.  Bend your knees and come halfway down.  Lower your seat to hover just off your heels.  Then return back to the bent knee position, not straightening your legs all the way.  Repeat 8x.  Then switch and repeat to the opposite side.

Second Plie

Start facing your “barre” with your legs wide and your toes and knees turned out to the sides.  Bend your knees and lower your seat down towards the ground attempting to get your thighs parallel with the ground.  Squeeze your glutes and straighten your legs.  Repeat 16x.

Second Plie on Releve

Start from the Second Position Plie position but this time rise up onto your toes and repeat the exercise on releve (with heels lifted).  Repeat 16x.

Courtesy Lunge

Start with right foot in front and left foot behind the right shoulder with left heel off the ground.  Square hips and shoulders to the “barre”.  Bend the knees and lower down into a courtesy lunge trying to get the back knee to hover just off the floor.  Squeeze the glutes and return to start.  Repeat 16x then switch legs.

Courtesy Knee to Elbow

Start from courtesy position in plie lunge.  Draw left knee up towards left elbow staying bent in right leg then return back to start.  Repeat 16x then repeat on opposite leg.

Arabesque

Face the “barre” with left leg slightly turned out to the side and right leg extended straight behind with toe pointed on the floor and knee turned out to the side.  Squeeze glutes and lift right leg to hip height keeping the leg straight.  Lower the toe to tap it back on the floor.  Repeat 8x.  Then repeat to the other side.

Attitude

Start with left leg turned out slightly to the side and right leg behind the left ankle with right toe pointed and lifted off the floor and right knee bent and turned out to the side. Bend the left leg then lift the right leg, keeping the right knee bent, up to hip height.  Lower the entire shape back down.  Repeat 8x then switch sides and repeat.

Foldover Arabesque

Start with left leg in front and right leg behind.  Foldover at waist with both hands on “barre” keeping arms straight and head and spine in a straight line.  With right leg lifted and pointed, bend left leg.  Lift and lower left heel 16x.  Switch sides and repeat.

Folded L

Start from Foldover Arabesque position but bend the right knee and bring right knee in to meet left knee then push right knee back keeping the knee bent.  Repeat 16x then switch sides and repeat.

Plank Pushup

Start in a plank position with both hands on plank in an incline position.  Rise up onto both toes and keeping abs in, bend elbows and lower chest towards “barre”.  Repeat 8x.

Gladly, I will print off the printable and take it outside with me! I love my backyard in the nice weather. Memorial Day coming up means we honor & memorialize our veterans (my mother). Also it means we start the season to wear our whites (shorts and sandals) and we know we need to be in shape to wear white! Thank you!
