Friday’s Food & Fitness: A Better French Fry

Hi hi!  How was your week?  With the Labor Day holiday and then a Brazilian holiday here mid-week, my posting schedule was a bit off.  No worries though because there is lots of fun stuff today.  And it’s FriYAY! Or should I say it is French FRYday!

Welcome to Friday’s Food & Fitness!

I’ve been on a bit of a french fry kick lately, which sounds strange, I know!  But the point is I love a good french fry as much as the next person but obviously I’m not a fan of high saturated fat, excess sodium and all the other good things that come along with french fries.  My solution?  Find a better french fry!  I’ve been trying out a bunch of different recipes at home and have recently hit upon two that I really like.  The first one–Carrot Fries!

I’m not kidding.  Generally I hate cooked carrots.  They are mushy and gross and just blah.  But, these baked carrot fries are delicious and nutritious full of beta carotene, which is converted in vitamin A and is an antioxidant, which helps prevent free radicals (which can develop into cancer).  These are so simple to make.  All you have to do is peel the carrots, slice off the ends and then chop into french fry pieces.  Coat with extra virgin olive oil and toss with some salt.  Bake in the oven at 425 degrees for 10 minutes, flip and bake for another 10.  Serve with your favorite ketchup!

My second better fry is the Sweet Potato Fry!  I know, I know.  You’ve heard it all before.  But, I have a new twist on them.  I have been using my spiralizer to make curly fries!  So these are not only delicious and healthy but also fun.

Cooper absolutely loves watching me spiralize things.  Plus, spiral fries are so much better than normal fries.  They just taste better, am I right?  Well, in all seriousness, I do think they taste better because they end up coming out much thinner and are easier to bake to that crispy perfection that you normally get from a fryer.  If you haven’t tried spiralizing your fries yet, its a must-do!  Then just follow the directions for the carrot fries above.  Watch these ones carefully though because they are thin and may cook faster!

I love September because I feel it is a time for new beginnings even more so than the new year sometimes.  It’s a great chance to recommit to your fitness routine.  I’m super excited to recommit to filming new videos for my online site and I have already uploaded two that I think you will really love!

Check out my recent video: Intense Toning Barre.  This full-body workout is absolutely no joke.  I break out all of my best moves to get you super toned. Embrace the shake with this class! You will need light weights, a playground ball, a chair or sturdy piece of furniture and a mat. Get ready to get super toned!

This second video makes me feel like it will be summer forever!  Mat Pilates: Inner Thighs, Glutes & Abs. This class will make you sweat and you’ll work hard!

I am a huge fan of french fries, they are a bit of a weakness for me! Those carrot fries sound interesting though! I am also a super big fan of September, it’s my favorite time of the year, feels like new beginnings!

I love making fries at home too! I use Old Bay seasoning and sea salt a lot on them. My go-to is definitely using sweet potato, but I definitely want to try spiralizing them ASAP. Sounds so yum!

Whoa! Carrot fries-I need these! I would like to get a spiralizer sometime, too! Of course I love sweet potato fries-all good alternatives to the high fat fries.
