The Benefits of Barre

Barre workouts have absolutely exploded in popularity in the last few years.  It’s no surprise since they offer a big time burn with huge payouts in the looking and feeling good department.  But what are the benefits of barre?  Read on to find out!

Barre is one of the best ways to tone and sculpt your muscles.  Barre is a form of interval training.  In a typical barre interval, you target a specific set of muscles and work it until the point of fatigue.  You are effectively overloading the muscles so that they start to burn and shake before getting a rest.  This overload on your muscles requires them to adapt and become stronger, helping you look more toned.

One of the biggest benefits from barre and its overload on the muscles is that it creates lean muscle mass.  Increasing lean muscle mass is the best thing for your body because it boosts your metabolism and your rate of caloric burn, meaning that it is an incredibly effective way to initiate fat loss.  Creating lean muscle mass is what will make you look absolutely fabulous!

So how does it actually work?  When you overload your muscles, you stimulate the neural pathways between your brain and the muscle.  These neural pathways send signals to the muscles to contract.  By activating these pathways over and over again, they begin to continually send signals to the muscles to keep contracting meaning your body will look more firm and toned.

Additionally these neural pathways also help you build strength by continually signaling to the muscle fibers to respond.  This more signals sent, the more muscle fibers are recruited meaning the stronger you will be in response to exercise or exertion!

Finally, by pushing the muscles to the point of fatigue, it requires the muscles to build more protein filaments within each muscle fiber.  By growing more protein filaments, the muscles increase in strength and power and the size and shape of the muscle are altered creating more definition and increasing caloric burn.  All of this to say that barre will make you stronger, more toned and help you burn fat and calories!
