Favorite Things {October}

I sat down to write Favorite Things for October and I was blank. I just couldn’t think of anything interesting. Then I started typing and I couldn’t stop! Turns out September was way more fruitful than I thought!
Enjoy!

Watching

I started seeing promos for the show Succession and I was intrigued. I’m always on the lookout for shows that Pete and I can enjoy together and this one looked like it ticked the boxes (not too girly, not too emotional, a little gritty).

I added HBO to my Hulu account and we started watching and I’m hooked! The patriarch and corporate mogul falls ill and we see how this impacts his family personally and in terms of how the company succeeds to the family members.

It’s a ten episode season and we’ve already watched 3 episodes. I’m feeling a quick binge on this one. We’re hooked!

Also, so looking forward to the return of This is Us, Grey’s Anatomy and
Modern Family!

Doing

Pete and I have been pretty lucky to be able to have a consistent babysitter so we can go out to dinner most Friday nights. But that still leaves Saturday and with two kids at home, we are often so exhausted we just crash in front of the TV. But I decided we should make a bit of an effort every once in awhile and I found Date Night In.

These boxes provide you with everything you need to enjoy a date night with your spouse or significant other in the comfort of your own home.

The monthly subscription box comes with a date guide that walks you through the activities for the date. It also includes optional recipes and a curated Spotify playlist. Each month there is a different theme so you never have to fear that the activities will become repetitive.

The guide usually includes some “table talk” to encourage conversation during your dinner and then some fun games and activities. Additionally, there are suggestions on ways to continue your date night.

I stockpiled a few boxes before giving them a try and so far we’ve tried “Sensing More”, a date that requires you to rely on your senses for the experience.

A few highlights were:

– The menu (taste) which included Mediterranean small plates that I loved and reminded me of our baby moon in Greece!
– The massage activity (touch). I would give my left hand for a regular massage. Plus we learned some fun techniques from Thai and Shiatsu.
– The caramel tasting (taste and smell). These were delicious!!!

Some of the activities are a little corny but overall we really enjoyed them and it was something fun to do besides just some in front of the tv!

Reading

My recent book pick is The Golden Hour by Beatriz Williams. I’ve read other books by this author and really enjoyed them. This book follows a few story lines and jumps around in time as you slowly piece together the entire picture.

The thing with Beatriz Williams’ books is that she really develops the characters and a little bit of a story line but the story sort of really comes together more towards the end. So I’m still not exactly sure where this book is going but I like it!

Shopping

If you know me, you know two things about me: 1) I love summer and 2) I live in Lilly Pulitzer. So September is actually my favorite time of year for Lilly because the After Party sale happens every year and you can get a ton of stuff for so much less. I have really really cute stuff that I paid way less for because of the sale.

This year I went a bit nuts and got some amazing stuff. I actually only bought beach/pool, tennis and golf stuff because I have a ton of dresses and shirts and shirts already. I’m pretty stoked especially because my tennis club requires all white and I nabbed two cute white tennis dresses!

This year was especially great for September because Target had a 20 year design celebration and Lilly came back! I got all three dresses and the jumpsuit thanks in no small part to MY MOM who was first in line at the store!!! Way to go Mom.

I also grabbed some super cute Missoni dresses.

Happy 1st Birthday to Wyatt! Wyatt’s birthday was this month. I can’t believe he is one already! Someone hold me. Obviously I loved this kid the second he was born but as he starts to become a little boy with a personality who likes to give and receive hugs and does things on purpose to make us laugh, I just love him a little bit more each day. Sweet boy, happy birthday!
