Favorite Things {June}

Hello June! And hello to another month of Favorite Things. Even as the world starts to re-open, I’ve got a lot of resources that can help you and your family as you still venture out slowly. Here are some of my favorite things!

Schooling/Camping

Homeschooling. Ugh. It is so tough. And now at least one of our camps has been cancelled this summer. BUT, I have found two amazing options to help keep your little ones learning and entertained this summer.

First up, Kiwi Camp. This camp is perfect for 3-11 year olds. They are planning on 4 weeks of camp starting June 22nd and each week targets a different age range. I’m actually planning on participating in 3 of the weeks for my 5 year old. The first week is for 3-4 year olds but I think he will still get a lot out of it. The second week is for 5-8 year olds (perfect!). And the third week is for 6 and up so since he is closing in on 6, I’d thought I would give it a try.

All of the activities are completely FREE! You do have the option of adding on their crates that go along with the theme and I have purchased a few (a few we already have).

I absolutely LOVE Kiwi Co. We’ve been a member for a long time and their subscriptions are amazing. I love the focus on STEM learning and Cooper adores the activities they send. We spent a long time learning about space and colors/rainbows with their kits as a jumping off point.

The second camp we’ve already started is MarcoPolo learning camp. We have a subscription to this STEM-based app and have been using it to supplement our homeschooling.

Their summer camp has an in-app component daily from Monday-Friday and also a printable component. I have the calendar for the entire month so I’ve also been able to coordinate books and TV shows that complement the daily and weekly themes. Last week we did Amazing Predators (sharks, dinosaurs yay!) and this week we are learning about STEM scientists like astronauts, entomologists and more.

Watching

I’m soooo excited that 13 Reasons Why is back on Netflix. I hardcore love this series. Yes it is technically a teen series but it really speaks to adults too. There is always an element of mystery and it also tackles so real teen issues. It is also a little terrifying for someone who has a kinderager already. I’m dreading the teens.

I haven’t started binge-watching yet but it is definitely on my to-watch list.

Reading

I’ve got a couple of books going right now. I’m still reading The Henna Artist from Reese Witherspoon x Hello Sunshine’s May book club pick. I love it and it has inspired my cooking (see below). But with all the books I’m reading right now, it is slow going.

I’ve also started the Reese Witherspoon x Hello Sunshine’s June book club pick–The Guest List by Lucy Foley. It is a thriller and I love thrillers plus they tend to be quick reads. So I figured I could breeze through this one.

Finally, I’m reading Jane Fonda’s My Life So Far. I was a huge Jane Fonda fan at about the age of 3. I honestly wish I had a copy of the photo of me with my leotard, tights, leg warmers and head band dancing it out to Jane Fonda’s workout video. Love. Her book is interesting. I’m not a huge biography fan but this one has me coming back.

Also, for all you Jane Fonda fans–her workout. You’re welcome.

Cooking

So as inspired by The Henna Artist, I’m so into Indian cooking. I love Indian food and I decided it is my new goal to make a bunch of different Indian recipes from scratch at home. I started out with my favorites-chicken tikka masala, rice, roasted tandoori cauliflower (my own creation) and homemade naan.

I thought the naan would be hard but it wasn’t and it came out so great! I can’t believe how amazing it tasted. The Hubs was super impressed. He loves naan and claimed it the best naan ever.

I also thought the chicken tikka tasted really fresh and not too oily or heavy. Overall a big win. The only drawback is that this is rather time consuming so may be a 1x per month thing rather than 1x per week!

Listening

I finally finished Daisy Jones and the Six on Audible. It was great and I enjoyed it but man it takes forever. I’ve just started The Wives. I’m still way at the beginning so I have no idea how much I’ll like it but it seems popular so I’m hoping it becomes addictive!

And that’s pretty much it so far for June. What have you been reading, cooking, watching, listening to and generally doing?
