New and Notable This Summer

Hey there!  Can you believe it’s already Thursday!!  Every week should be four days long!  I’ve got some fun things planned for this weekend so there will be plenty to share next week.  Hope you’ve got some good things in store this weekend as well.  East Coasters, it’s gonna be a hot one!

There are some really cool things happening around town and I’ve got some new and notable to share with you.  Check ’em out!

Citi Bike Share

[pinit]

NYC launched the largest city bike share program in the United States this past Monday.  New Yorkers now don’t have to take up precious apartment space to ride around town!  This program is the first new transportation initiative in NYC in 75 years.

Citi Bike, privately funded by Citigroup, Inc., kicked off Monday with 6,000 bikes in over 300 stations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.  The bikes are 3 speed blue cruisers and can be rented for $9.95 per day, $25 per week or $95 per year.  Yearly pass holders can take the bikes for 45 minutes at one time, while daily and weekly holders may use the bikes for 30 minutes at one time.  Not bad considering a monthly metro pass is over $100.

With an increased number of bike lanes along New York’s streets, Mayor Bloomberg is hoping this program will increase the number of residents and tourists using bikes to move about the city.

I think anything that helps us get off our duffs and get moving is a good thing!

Readers, do you have a bike share program in your city?  Would you use one if you did?

Rank & Style

I don’t know if you’ve heard of Rank & Style but it’s a new website designed to take the guesswork out of shopping by bringing you the top ten best of fashion and beauty products.  Rank & Style lists are created utilizing an algorithm that methodically researches and aggregates data (user reviews, bestseller lists, editorial
recommendations and expert product reviews) from the department stores,
boutiques, fashion blogs and style magazines you trust. Delivered to your inbox, each list captures the Top Ten items within a defined fashion or beauty category to help you find the best products based on their popularity, quality, value, trendiness and “buzz” factor.

Recently Rank & Style teamed up with FiTMAPPED*, an awesome website and iPhone app that provides a comprehensive, centralized and searchable fitness directory for NYC and LA, to create a list of the Top Ten Best Stylish Running Sneakers.  If you are in the market for some new kicks, you should check out this list.  I’ve never tried any of them but my personal favorite based on looks alone are the Nike Free Run+ 3.

Readers, what’s your favorite running shoe?

Outdoor yoga is a lot of fun! It’s so cool to be surrounded by so many people and looking up at the sky. It’s actually incredibly relaxing. If you ever get the chance, give it a try!
