Hi friends! Are you pretty psyched for the long weekend!? I am! I hope you have plans to do something really fun. I’m going to try and get in some beach time and some tennis! We’ll see how my arm goes with the tennis but I’m thinking it’s a go. I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s Asian feast!
One thing that is a must for Labor Day is a the all-American burger. Last weekend the Hubs and I headed out to a new burger joint that just opened in our hood called Bareburger. Bareburger prides itself on using all-organic, all-natural ingredients. Let me tell you, this burger spot was unbelievable!
There were so many options. You could create your own or you could go with one of the recommended burgers. The meat options were endless: beef, turkey, bison, elk, ostrich, wild boar. I’m not making this up! There were also plenty of veg options like black bean burgers, mushroom burgers and quinoa veggie burger. We are going to have to go back every week for weeks on end just to sample all the goodness at this place!
I finally settled on the Maui Wowie while Pete decided to go with the Roadhouse. We threw in some sweet potato fries and zucchini sticks for good measure. Well . . . we ended up with this!
Yeah it was a lot of food!!! The Mauie Wowie was delicious! Made with bison (they recommended wild boar but I wasn’t into that), smoked mozzarella, turkey bacon, grilled pineapple, fried onions, fire roasted red peppers and buttermilk ranch sauce, it was heaven on a bun!
Pete’s Roadhouse wasn’t bad either. More bison (which is really lean!), pepperjack, country bacon, avocado, sweet apple grilled onions, fire roasted red peppers and smoked paprika mayo, it hit the spot!
The sweet potato fries and zucchini sticks weren’t bad sides either! 😉
Needless to say a long walk was a necessity after this meal! We dragged our overstuffed bellies to Central Park for a walk around the Reservoir. It hit the spot almost as much as the burgers did! 🙂
Bareburger was such a hit, I decided to recreate the burger at home and I’ve got the recipe for you! This is a great twist on a classic burger for Labor Day. I used bison for this burger because that’s was I had at Bareburger and it tasted great! Not only that, it is much leaner than traditional beef. But if you are daring you can try it with some wild boar. If you do, let me know how it goes! 🙂 Read on for Bareburger Inspired Maui Wowie!
Serve with sweet potato fries!
I hope you guys enjoy these burgers and have a fabulous Labor Day weekend!
Readers, what are your plans for the weekend? Do you have a favorite burger joint? What’s your all-time favorite burger combo?

August 30, 2013I love pork but think I’d be a little scared to try wild boar. What if I don’t like it? I have to say, I think I would eat Pete’s burger first because I don’t like mixing my sweet with my salty. You look gorgeous in Central Park though! I got to explore for an hour or so and there is so much I didn’t get to see!

August 30, 2013Man your blog can make a girl super HONGRY, lol! That burger and sides look amazing! I love all kinds! We have a little spot here that has the best burgers ever. I went on my last week off. Now I might have to go back next week. I am working all weekend but hopefully I can find a gathering Monday when I get off. Enjoy your weekend!

August 30, 2013Every now and then I crave a burger and I just love that there are more and more places like Bare Burger offering organic, humanely raised meat…because that’s the only way I’ll eat it. In Atlanta we have Yeah Burger…very similar concept and the burgers are out of this world!

August 31, 2013I am interested to try the burger inspired by the Maui Wowie burger. The lean bison is probably does not miss the fat with the ingredients and the Greek yogurt, ranch dressing.

September 1, 2013You will have to give it a try Holly!

August 31, 2013I have heard great things about Bareburger. I am not really a person who regularly eats burgers, but when I do, it has to be top notch! Have a great weekend, Brittany! I’ll be home relaxing. 🙂
