After Thanksgiving: Run Your Turkey Off

Hello friends!  It is so hard to come back to the workweek after 4 days of leisure.  Man oh man.  My weekend was filled with some fun times including a Run Your Turkey Off 5k on Saturday.  The whole fam participated and we had a great time!

It was in the 20s that day in case you couldn’t tell from the amount of clothing we were wearing!

I actually didn’t run the 5k because my foot has been hurting for awhile now and I may have a stress fracture.  🙁  I have to go for an MRI next weekend.  Bummer.

On the bright side I was able to take a lot of great action shots and it was fun to hang with the family!  FYI, this is my mom doing “Fosse”.

I also enjoyed putting together some leftovers into this amazing panini!

turkey panini 1

Thanksgiving sandwich plus mashed sweet potato, brussel sprouts and kale salad.  Can I have that for lunch everyday??

Readers, did you do anything creative with your leftovers?  Did you run a turkey trot?  Any tips for dealing with a potential stress fracture?

Oh, that sandwich looks great! I have not done anything creative with my leftovers. We celebrated on Sunday so by the time it was all cleaned up it was time to get ready for work and end my four days. I miss having those four days. LOL!

I hope that your foot is okay and you don’t really have a stress fracture.

Thanks! I’ll find out tomorrow most likely.

I normally don’t get very creative with leftovers but I just felt inspired this year!

I got two stress fractures in college when I played basketball, they are pretty annoying. I was in a boot for 1-2 months each time. I recommend getting off it immediately and ice cupping the crap out of it. If it’s a stress fracture (especially if you foot) you want to catch it early or that thing will just hang around.

Oh my! That sandwich looks amazing! I need the recipe!

I hope your foot gets better soon! The race looks like a lot of fun regardless!

It was a great non-intimidating race, which was perfect for the fam. Recipe is really simple: take all Thanksgiving leftovers, put in between two slices of bread, add cheese and press in a panini press. Haha. In all seriousness I just used turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and some sliced cheddar.

Man that panini looks so delicious! I had turkey salad sandwiches that I thought were the bomb, but I’m so jealous looking at this one.

Nothing new with your weekend scene. Always an active busy bee 🙂 ! Great way to to get rid of the extras from Thursday!

I feel ya on the foot pain… Unfortunately my sesamoidiitis/bone fracture in my foot has been flaring up for the past bunch of weeks. It’s so frustrating! Sometimes I just think it’s the price we pay for being super active — damn overuse injuries!! Hope that your foot feels better soon.

Oh no! I remembered you were in a boot but I couldn’t remember your exact injury. I am so sorry it has been flaring up. That is no bueno. You understand the frustration of the foot injury! 🙁

That panini looks great! I actually tossed most of my leftovers… trying hard to stay committed to my fit journey. 🙂

You’re really good. My mom makes an entire second turkey so there are enough leftovers for everyone. She is crazy.

I’m so sorry to hear about your foot!! That is awful. I hope you can still dance on it but I’m thinking probably not. Luckily I’ve never had one, but I know that you have to be very strict about staying off of it so it can heal properly. At least this is kind of a good time of year to take a little lower body rest!?
Your family is so adorable. I love that you all participated in the run and your mom’s Fosse is hilarious!

      December 4, 2013

Yeah, I’m taking a break from dancing. I did a little bit of Just Dance on Thanksgiving but I basically just did the arms. 🙁 You are lucky with all the running you do you have never had one, apparently they are very common in runners. I have my MRI tomorrow so I’ll find out what is going on!

That panini looks yummy! I’m sorry to hear that you’re dealing with injury. Fingers crossed that your MRI doesn’t indicate something too serious. Healing vibes being sent.

Sorry to hear about your foot! I had some foot pain for a few weeks after I ran the 10k and I just took it easy and then it went away. It’s good that you are taking it easy for a little while. Good luck with the MRI!

That’s smart! Unfortunately mine isn’t going away and hurts a lot when I just walk from place to place. I guess it’s the price we pay for being active.

Sorry to hear about your foot! That is frustrating! On another note, that panini looks awesome!! We didn’t have any leftovers because we had Thanksgiving at another family member’s house, but normally I would make turkey soup and we would have sandwiches. I have never made paninis with our leftover turkey though and now I am wondering why because they are like a staple in our house!

That turkey sammich looks so good! I wanted to do a turkey trot so bad but I can’t handle running in the cold. I am such a mess! Maybe if it was over 40 degrees but 20?! No way Jose. 🙂

I love that your whole family did the turkey trot – what fun! Your sandwich creation looks delicious. I was pretty uncreative and just ate leftovers as they were. Maybe next year I’ll try the sandwich idea!

I like sandwiches because even though it’s the same stuff as dinner, it’s like I packaged it up and marketed it differently so it inevitably tastes better!
