Challenge Check-in & Life Lately

Hello all!  How is your week going?  Besides the swing from 50 degrees on Sunday to a snowstorm on Monday, we’re doing good here in my neck of the woods!  I wanted to check in with all of you guys who are doing the Find Your Balance February Challenge and see how things are going?  I love seeing all the check-ins on Twitter, Instagram and, of course, the Challenge site!  You guys are the best!! 🙂

Here are a few of my favorites:

From Elyse:  Finished my 30 day yoga challenge today with a Hot Core class! Planning to avoid sweets all week to balance out Super Bowl Sunday and a friends birthday celebrations this weekend 😉

From Sarah: #FindBalanceFebruary Worked up a good sweat shoveling snow! Going to do an at-home- workout today!

From Tania: Day 3 – After so many days of training, it’s time to give my body a rest. It’s important to give your muscles enough time to recover. So a day of healthy eating and se foam rolling before bed 🙂

From Yvette: This was me a year ago, I have dropped inches and a few pounds since then, I love taking pictures, but there are not very many, because I don’t like the pounds. I need support and encouragement to get them off. Thanks for this challenge opportunity with others.

And I wouldn’t leave you all hanging!  I’ve been doing my part to find my balance too!  This week I’ve been sweating it out at a new class and with an at-home workout!

 Challenge Checkin 3

I also made a ton of healthy goodies for the Superbowl, which I was very proud of!  I made some homemade hummus for the first time and it was utterly amazing! So much better than the store bought stuff.  I don’t know what it is with store hummus but the Hubs and I agree there is an artificial aftertaste that neither of us love.  The homemade kind was so fresh and so good.  I don’t know why it took me so long to make it!

 Superbowl eats

We also had some homemade guacamole, homemade tortilla chips, kale chips and a plate of veggies!  I also made the guys some mini pizzas but luckily they were so full from all the other goodies I made, I got some lunch for the week! 😉

So I feel like I’ve been talking at you all a lot recently with recaps of this and reviews of that, so I thought today, I’d just let go a bit and tell you what’s been going on with my life!  And we’ve had some big things happening in the Bendall casa!  The Hubs got his Green Card last Friday!  Whoot Whoot!  I guess I’ll keep him! 😉

It was actually a pretty frustrating experience.  We’ve been together 10 years this year and married for almost 2 but going in for the interview was the most ridiculous experience I’ve ever had.  After being sworn in and signing my life away, the immigration officer started off asking us why we didn’t include this document or that document in the application.  Me, being the sensible lawyer that I am, thought, wait a second, why didn’t you just flat out reject the application if there was not enough paperwork?!?  The immigration officer actually even said she’d never had to deny an application for lack of paperwork.  Huh, what!?

Needless to say after she dropped the “D” word within the first five minutes I got pretty defensive.  But when I tried to explain the fact that we met in 2004 and have lived in two countries together, she wasn’t interested!  Instead she wanted to know why I am not on our apartment lease (when we rented it in 2009, the leasing office told us they didn’t rent to unmarried couples– a complete violation of city, state and federal discrimination law but that’s for another post!) and why we didn’t keep a shared bank account.  Ummmm, because we don’t need one!?  Then she proceeded to tell us we could open a bank account and just put $500 in it.  Wait, are you telling us to open up an account that we don’t use for immigration purposes!?

Obviously it was an incredibly frustrating experience and we walked out of there feeling none too hot.  And we were kind of only half joking when we said, “Well, at least we can always go back to Australia!”…

So we were pretty happy when we got the Green Card notification!

After our morning at immigration we decided to head over to the DMV.  What can I say, we are gluttons for punishment.  Haha!  My license is expiring this month and I needed to transfer it from Massachusetts to New York.  Apparently that takes three hours!  Good times.  At least my new license is on the way.  Hopefully it will say the right last name!

In other news, have you guys been watching Toned Up?  I was excited to see the TV show on Bravo because 1.) I’ve got the Tone It Up girls’ DVD, 2.) I have a secret passionate love for the Real Housewives; and 3.) I love any TV show about fitness!  Is anyone else completely jealous of their life?!  Last week they were staying in the Four Seasons on Maui for work!  Whaaaat!?  We looked at getting married there!  And they go to work in bikinis.  I hope they come back for a second season!

TIU 1

Readers, what has been up with you lately?  Anyone else watching Tone It Up?  Ever spent six hours in government offices?

Government offices are necessary… but always a time-suck. I’ve spent hours in the social security office AND the DMV before. Womp. Womp.

I’ve heard so much about the TIU girls but I haven’t watched the show or tried their workouts. I do follow them on IG if that counts for anything.

The show is pretty interesting because it gives the behind the scenes look. But it makes me super jealous too! Maui for work!?!

I told myself to TiVo and episode of Tone It Up but… Uh… Forgot to! LOL! Those girls live down the street from me. Not sure I will like their show – or maybe I will watch it and be bitter? BAH HA HA HA HA HA!

Yeah, it’s hard not to be bitter! Haha. I am jealous you live down the street from them because it looks like such a beautiful area on TV!

I meant to watch the Tone It Up show but forgot to set the DVR.
Glad your husband got his Green Card – sorry it was such a difficult experience though!

I’m not watching. I don’t have time. I do watch clips every now and then to see what they are up to on IG! I wasn’t even aware of them until I think Kim mentioned them a few months ago or maybe you. I love them though from social networks.

That green card story is infuriating. I am sorry you all had to endure that because you are the REAL DEAL! Congratulations to you and him!

Thanks Joi! Apparently our experience is not that unique but it still was frustrating. We are excited he got it though!

Oh my the immigration things. I remember how stressful they got. I never get my 10 years green card tho only the conditional. Congrats for you both 😀

In re: to the immigration story, Wow! But unfortunately I’m not surprised. That sucks that it’s so complicated but WOOHOO for him getting his green card!!

Homemade hummus is the BEST. I think it was 2 Super Bowls ago that I first made homemade hummus and I was all, “Why do I ever buy this stuff pre-made?!” I love to throw a roasted red pepper into the mix to spice it up!

I haven’t been watching Tone It Up but I don’t watch much TV. I’m wondering if I can find the old episodes online. Would be good running material.

You are a gluten for punishment! The DMV and the Immigration office in one day. Maybe you should have scheduled a colonoscopy for that day too. LOL

Just did my check in on the Challenge Loop, thanks for the reminder. I’m going to program the hashtag into my phone and tablet so I can tag you and find people on IG. Luckily we’re only on day 7 but without your reminder I would have forgotten to check in. I’m just awful with challenges.

I know right!? Colonoscopies are at least over in like 15 minutes! Haha.

Thanks for checking in! I saw your post! 🙂
