I write this post with mixed emotions. We never really planned to move to NYC. We sort of just ended up here by chance. When the Hubs and I moved to the U.S. from Australia we initially landed in Massachusetts where my family is from. It was the Hubs’ job that landed us in NYC.
It was in NYC where I graduated from law school, passed the bar and was admitted as an attorney.
It was here where we got engaged and got married.
It was here where we welcomed our first child.
And of course there were hundreds of moments in between from shows on Broadway to Shakespeare in the Park.
Picnics in Brooklyn.
Tennis in Queens.
Cycling around the city.
Times with good friends.
Lots of good food.
Suffice to say, the last seven and half years have been memorable.
But as much as we have enjoyed our time here, it is time to move on. Our family is saying goodbye to NYC and Ola to Brazil! We are moving to Sao Paulo, Brazil in February. It’s going to be a big adventure and hopefully one that will pay off!
Readers, have you ever made a big move? Did a big gamble ever pay off for you?
Oh my gosh, that is so exciting!! What an adventure for your family. I’ve never moved out of the country but moved to LA from Seattle then most recently to Dallas. It’s so fun exploring a new city and meeting new people, I love that part! Good luck with the big move, can’t wait to see pics of your new town!
Congratulations, Britt, and to your Hubs! You will do well and enjoy your little Cooper with new experiences all around.
My husband and I moved from the east coast to the west coast for several years. We came back to the east coast roots which proved to be an excellent move for the family.
Take it all in and give us some Brazilian infused posts!
So so so exciting! I wish I had the guts to move far away like that, I’ve been in NYC since I moved here for college minus one short and unsuccessful stint in LA.
oh Brittany! I am going to miss you so so much!! when I read the title I knew it. I just didn’t know it was going to be so far. I am so happy for you Britt!! you and the entire family. my dream is to go for the Olympics so hopefully we can hang out then. congrats, New York is losing a gem!
Wow!!! Congratulations and sorry – I know that even with the excitement of the move it will be hard to leave a place you love so much!!! I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures in moving and learn more about Brazil!!!
Oh wow, that’s so exciting! I’m from the NYC area and my move to France took some getting used to but in the end was the best thing I could have done. It’s pushed me personally and tested my limits, forced me to get serious about learning French and has exposed me to so many new things and experiences that I never would have encountered stateside. All the best to you and looking forward to following your journey in Brazil!
Wow, what big news!! I was in São Paulo a year and a half ago, and I thought it was a pretty great city to live in. I can’t wait to hear all about how things go for you guys! Very exciting 🙂
How fun! My dad’s job took us all over. I did junior high in Toronto, Canada, high school in Costa Rica, and lived two summers in Russia while doing archival research for my graduate degree. Have fun in Brazil – it’s on my list of places I want to visit.
WOW Brittany! You all have lived quite the adventurous life! Brazil sounds amazing. I am so looking forward to you sharing from there! All the best to you!

Moving to California from Jersey was a huge move for us. I quickly fell in love with the West coast and have loved living out here. I think that making a big move can be scary, but such a great adventure! I’m sure that Brazil is going to be amazing adventure for you guys! I’ve always said that I’d move abroad in a heartbeat, and I can’t wait to hear all about your big move and new life in Brazil.
